RN - Electrophysiology Lab - Full Time - York Hospital

Job Description:

Under general supervision, provides care, assessment and pre-procedural and follow up instruction and care to patientsin the Electrophysiology Laboratory.


Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Accountabilities:

  1. Acts as an assistant to the physician during procedures and prepares or supervises the preparation of sterile trays, instruments, supplies and equipment necessary for procedures. Is familiar with variations in the preparations for different procedures and/or physicians.
  2. Sutures veins and skin incisions. Applies manual pressure to venous and arteriotomy sites while assessing circulatory status and hemostasis.
  3. Demonstrates proficiency in venipuncture, intravenous therapy and maintenance techniques.
  4. Administers medications as ordered by the physician.
  5. Provides emergency care as indicated and supported by protocols, training and experience.
  6. Participates in the pacemaker clinic, including the programming of permanent pacemakers.
  7. Provides clinical oversight and direction for EKG Technicians in the performance of transtelephonic pacemaker checks.

NonEssential Accountabilities:

  1. Cross trains in the Cardiac Diagnostic Laboratory as necessary and provides back up support for catheterization procedures.
  2. Documents and reports electrophysiological data and maintains a record keeping system for pacemaker patients and a research database.
  3. Attends meetings as required.
  4. Performs other related duties as identified.

  5. impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as
  6. well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  7. Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  8. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops.
  9. Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement
  10. and innovation.

  • Minimum Experience:
    • 2 - 3 years
    • Min Field Of ExpertiseCardiology; electrophysiology; EKG and physiologic monitoring
    • Req Cert/RegistrationRegistration and current RN license in PA; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Certification; BLS Certification
  • Minimum Education:
    • Associate's Degree
  • Physical Demands:
    • Frequent prolonged standing/walking
