General Summary:
Under the general diction of the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Medical Director, provides leadership in trauma injury prevention focusing on the needs of the community; external and internal. Data will be utilized from the Trauma Registry to plan, develop and provide oversight of the Trauma Prevention Program at WellSpan Health/York Hospital. This position will also be committed to improving patient care, directly and indirectly, via the role of practitioner, consultant, change agent, educator, researcher, leader, and case manager. Exemplifies and promotes nursing practice excellence by impacting on patient care outcomes. As case manager, coordinates and manages the care of complex patients. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes within a defined population and with local, regional, state and national organizations to meet the prevention needs of the community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are essential job accountabilities:
1 Develops and coordinates outreach and prevention programs for targeted populations by utilizing the Trauma Registry data to assist in identifying the needs of the community.
2 Collaborates with other professionals to improve patient care delivery and achieve desired patient outcomes.
3 Conducts community education programs for diverse populations.
4 Develops and maintains a public presence for the prevention program and coordinates responses to request for injury prevention.
5 Initiates, implements, and evaluates process redesign and system changes.
6 Acts as a spokesperson for injury and trauma preventions issues/concerns.
7 Acts as a liaison to other hospitals and community groups related to trauma prevention and outreach.
8 Identifies, pursues and obtains sources of program support and/or grant funding.
9 Establishes and implements strategies for continuous improvement.
10 Develops, implements, coordinates and evaluates education/training/orientation programs for staff and students, and educational resources for patients and families.
11 Serves as a resource to nursing staff, pre-hospital personnel, and other outside personnel related to trauma care and injury prevention education.
12 Assists in the development of QI projects/nursing research and collaborates with staff in developing methodology and analysis of findings.
13 Develop brochures, audiovisual aids and presentation handouts.
14 Contributes new knowledge to nursing practice by participating in clinical research as appropriate.
15 Participates and prepare for the PTSF site survey, maintain evaluations of programs and presentations for efficacy, efficiency and quality of information presented.
16 Acts as a task force/project manager within the System.
17 Establishes methods/systems for coordinating patients' care throughout the continuum of care and for monitoring patients' progress throughout the episode or care continuum.
18 Collects, analyzes, and disseminates data related to targeted populations.

Required Skills

RN License in Pennsylvania

BSN required; MSN preferred


Valid driver's license

Required Experience

At least 3-5 years of current RN experience with at least 2-3  in either a Trauma or ED setting.
