Psychiatric Technician II - After School

Full-time, Day/Eve, Monday-Friday 12-8pm during school year, 9am-5pm during summer

Job Description:

Under the direct supervision of the Manager of Behavioral Health or Milieu Manager assists the professional staff in the care of psychiatric patients. Facilitates the maintenance of the therapeutic environment in the IBHS After-School Program.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provides care to patients in a manner that considers safety, comfort, and the therapeutic environment.
  2. Assists the team members in the care and evaluation of patients.
  3. Assists patients with activities of daily living.
  4. Checks patient's vital signs.
  5. Charts observations on assigned patients' in legible, accurate and appropriate format following hospital and unit procedures.
  6. May apply physical restraints or assist with placing a patient in seclusion under the direct supervision of the physician or RN.
  7. Facilitates educational groups and supervises recreational activities as directed by the RN.
 

Qualifications

  • Minimum Experience:
    • 1 - 3 months
  • Minimum Education:
    • Bachelor's degree
  • Required Certification:
    • BLS certification
  • Required Courses:
    • Must provide clearance per the Child Protective Services Law amended by PA Act 33 of 1985
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license in the current state of residence. Driving record must meet requirements established by WellSpan Risk Management.

Groups provide structured therapeutic sessions incorporating teachable moments and opportunities for success at the program and through community integrated activities. Groups allow for Students to participate in therapeutic groups & activities specifically designed to meet their individual mental health treatment needs. We believe “treatment is teaching”.  Practice of skills help our students’ build confidence & ability to successfully translate to other domains.

Staff lead Clinical and ABA groups. Groups are supported by evidenced-based curriculums and could target topics such as:

  • Relaxation
  • Social Skills
  • Coping Skills
  • Problem Solving
  • Self-Control
  • Self-Expression & Advocacy
  • Emotional Regulation
  • Independent Living

Snapshot of Role:

  • Run groups in milieu & community settings
  • Teach skills in group & 1:1
  • Offer caregiver education groups & individual connection
  • Come up with “outside the box” ideas to that better meet the needs of students
  • Complete clinical documentation
  • Provide transportation as needed
  • NO on-call
  • “Hands off”, no restraints
  • Part of a team environment
  • Trauma Informed Care approach
