Job Description:

Under the general supervision of service line leadership, develops, implements and leads a comprehensive spine program and general neurosurgical services across the System, i.e., across all markets, entities, and disciplines.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. In collaboration with the service line leadership team, assumes responsibility for the development, implementation and leadership of the Spine Program and general neurosurgical services.
  2. In collaboration with Medical Director-Spine, oversees community-based spine leadership teams to facilitate standardization of best practices and collaboration among team members. Ensures consistency and standardization of the program and services in each market across the System.
  3. Organizes services in a manner to ensure timely and appropriate access to Spine services and triage of services.
  4. Collaborates with Regional Medical Directors of Spine and Brain to determine and measure performance and outcomes for successful programs including overall customer satisfaction, financial performance and long-term outcomes. Utilizes measures to identify and implement opportunities for improvement.
  5. Leads the development of policies, clinical pathways and other standard work, communication, and documentation that supports the continuity of care across levels of care, treatment environments, and services.
  6. Develops short- and long- term objectives with each area as it relates to Spine and general neurosurgical services throughout WellSpan system to align with System and Service Line strategic plans/goals.
  7. Oversees the development and maintenance of all required documents for regulatory bodies.
  8. Directs the development and facilitation of ongoing professional education programs related to spine and general neurosurgery for key stakeholders such as Primary Care Physicians.
  9. Directs the development and implementation of patient educational material for all patients who may benefit from a comprehensive spine services and/or general neurosurgery program.
  10. Develops, coordinates and participates in community awareness programs related to spine care/options and general neurosurgery.
  11. Maintains awareness of market share to assess competitiveness of service; develops and implements plans to increase market share of spine services and general neurosurgery.
  12. Engages and guides PR and Marketing staff to effectively educate community and referring physicians about program.
  13. Provides leadership for ongoing clinical and administrative process redesign.
  14. Serve as the primary communicator for the programmatic elements of the System’s spine and general neurosurgical services to facilitate the accurate representation of services to various executive, technological, and clinical teams.
  15. Supervises, develops and leads a team of spine navigators (care coordinators) and spine/neurosurgical program coordinators.
 

Qualifications

  • Minimum Experience:
    • 5 - 7 years of experience in management of a neurosurgical, orthopedic or spine program
  • Minimum Education:
    • Master’s Degree
  • Required Certification:
    • Registration and current RN license in PA. Other relevant degrees would be considered such as Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, etc.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills; substantial computer literacy and data file management skills
    • Knowledge of regulatory standards, both national and state. Demonstrated experience in preparing for and handling state and federal surveys would be an advantage.
    • Managerial experience and understanding of best practices in leadership
    • Experience with public speaking and problem-solving
    • Outstanding organizational skills and demonstrated analytical ability
    • Experience in planning and facilitating creativity and innovation
    • Solid understanding of financial implications for system wide programs and impact
