Job Description:

Under the direction of the Executive Director-Philanthropy, identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards a portfolio of 50-60 donors and prospects who can give $10,000+ annually, and/or who are interested in a planned gift. Develops and implements moves management plans for each assigned donor. Staffs appropriate committees for the York Health Foundation as assigned by the Executive Director. Serves as WellSpan philanthropy system lead for the Gratitude/Grateful Patient (GP) program which includes establishing insight and strategy for patient wealth screening, research and solicitation best practices for GP and their families. Develops key relationships with 5-7 physician partners for the purpose of securing gratitude referrals. Works as part of an integrated philanthropy team to develop best practice philanthropic strategies, build a culture of philanthropy at WellSpan and develop standard, efficient processes, and practices.


Duties and Responsibilities


  1. Identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards major and planned giving donors and prospects, including grateful patients, community leaders, system leaders, and physicians.
  2. Implements moves management plans for top Major Giving/Planned Giving prospects. Develops and implements prospect research. Participates as a member of the system wide donor cultivation/solicitation/stewardship strategy team.
  3. Maintains meaningful relationships with approximately 50-60 Major Giving/Planned Giving donors and prospects to advance their relationship with the York Health Foundation, tracking contacts, visits, solicitations, and important donor information in the Raisers Edge donor database.
  4. Participates in planning long-term Foundation goals and strategies and leads GP planning for the system.
  5. Staffs board committees as assigned by the Executive Director.
  6. Stays current in Major Giving and Gratitude best practices and communicates same to the team, updating policy, practice, and strategy adjustments accordingly.

  • Minimum Experience:
    • 3 - 5 years in a successful Major Giving/Principal Gifts capacity


  • Minimum Education:
    • Bachelor's Degree


  • Skills:
    • Excellent interpersonal, relationship building and communications (written and verbal) skills; Ability to organize work and to work independently and as part of a team. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to perform basic database functions, including donor information entry and reports; computer applications skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite); strong writing skills; ability to handle multiple tasks effectively
