Job Description:

Under the general direction of the Chief Diagnostic Physicist/Radiation Safety Officer, provides radiation safety oversight of the York Hospital Radiation Safety Program and ensures the proper calibration and functioning of diagnostic imaging equipment in Imaging and other System departments.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assists in establishing, implementing and reviewing the Radiation Safety Program, including policies, procedures, audits, exposure reviews, etc..
  2. Conducts diagnostic checks of imaging equipment at required intervals and participates in the assessment of new technology.
  3. Provides required radiation safety in-services to employees and physicians.
  4. Maintains radiation measuring equipment and radioactive material inventories.
  5. Advises patients, physicians and employees of their radiation exposures/doses as required.
  6. Evaluates accidents/incidents involving radiation/radioactive materials and prepares reports for review and inspection.
 

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Experience:
    • 3 - 5 years
  • Minimum Education:
    • Master's Degree in Radiation or Medical Physics
  • Minimum Field Of Expertise:
    • Physics, Medical Physics, Engineering, Applied Health Physics or other related physical science
  • Required Certification:
    • American Board of Radiology in Diagnostic Radiological Physics; or American Board of Medical Physics in Diagnostic Imaging Physics; or Board eligible-certification to be achieved within 3 years of employment
  • Physical Demands:
    • Light physical effort (lift/carry up to 10 lbs)
    • Frequent prolonged standing/walking
    • Lifts supplies/equipment
    • Manual dexterity and mobility
    • Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching
