Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the hospital Patient Safety Officer, promotes an environment of safe care for patients by supporting patient safety initiatives. Works with leadership, healthcare providers, and hospital staff to analyze and improve clinical care practices. In accordance to applicable regulatory and legislative requirements ensures completeness and timeliness of patient safety reported data. Promotes and maintains a Hospital-wide environment of safe care for patients treated at the Hospital. Promotes and guides the organization towards a Just Culture Model.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Advocates the effective use of the safety reporting system to minimize blame and retribution and emphasize systems improvements.
  2. Collaborates with Patient Safety Officer to identify and facilitate necessary practice changes based on clinical and administrative data and current research findings.
  3. In collaboration with the Patient Safety Officer and Senior Leadership, participates in patient safety initiatives, such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Focused Discussions and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) for investigation of patient safety events.
  4. Supports the organization towards a Just Culture Model through mentoring of leadership and staff.
  5. Identifies and uses, as appropriate, internal and external resources to assist with the development of training and educational programs.
  6. Provides educational sessions for WellSpan York Hospital staff as identified from an educational assessment and other avenues.
  7. Routinely meets with Managers to identify staff or department educational needs.
  8. Assists in the development and implementation of clinical competencies.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum Experience:
    • 3+ years in acute care setting.
    • Previous patient safety experience a major plus

 

  • Minimum Education:
    • Bachelor's Degree

 

  • Minimum Field Of Expertise:
    • Experience in peri-operative or procedural areas; Lean experience preferred

 

  • Preferred Education:
    • Master’s Degree

 

  • Preferred Certification:
    • Registration and current RN license or LPN in PA; Respiratory Therapist, OTA or PTA considered as well.  CRNFA certification; NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist; CPR certification
