Job Description:

Under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager or designated RN, this role serves to protect our patients who are impulsive and at risk for falls. . This is a non-clinical employee who serves as a patient observer to assist in the prevention of falls and deter impulsive behaviors.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Accountabilities:

  1. Maintains patient safety by preventing falls and injury due to impulsiveness.
  2. Applies principles of caring and healing in interactions with patients and families and with colleagues.
  3. Provides for patient comfort, safety, and satisfaction.
  4. Maintains patient environment in a safe and orderly manner.
  5. Visualization of patient is required throughout assignment. The sitter should be positioned to respond to quickly to the patient’s needs and safety.
  6. Must be present and mindful of the patient and environment at all times.
  7. Observant of the patient’s activity and behavior and communicates on a regular basis to the nurse. Reports any pertinent observations to the RN. Obtains verbal report from the patient’s nurse to include information regarding the patient’s identified care needs.
  8. Communicate in a professional manner and demonstrates respect for patient, families/significant other and other healthcare members
  9. Offers support and feedback to peers and staff.
  10. Documents required information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  11. May be assigned to observe patients who are in isolation.
 

Qualifications

  • Minimum Experience:
    • No prior experience required
  • Minimum Education:
    • :Less Than High School
  • Required Certification:
    • :BLS certification; Child Abuse Clearance
    • Req Courses/TrainingWellSpan High Risk Observation Training Class (in person training) or per entity requirement; Epic Training
  • Physical Demands:
    • Mostly sedentary work
    • Occasional prolonged standing/walking
    • Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling
  • Skills:
    • Good customer service skills
