POSITION SUMMARY

The PRN Chaplain ministers to the spiritual and emotional needs of patients, visitors and staff members. As a member of multidisciplinary team, the PRN Chaplain participates in the healing process of the whole person. This is a position to support our patients, their families and staff on an as-needed basis including overnight and weekend shifts. The PRN Chaplain also performs or arranges religious services and participates in all activities of the Department. Because timing for support is critical, we are looking for individuals who can report to the WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital within 20 minutes.


 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates in a spiritual assessment of the patient/family/caregivers, as indicated.
  • Facilitates the development of a plan of care to meet the identified spiritual needs in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Provides direct spiritual care to patients/families/caregivers/staff, when needed.
  • Serves as a liaison to community chaplains and spiritual counselors, as indicated.
  • Documents all patient/family/caregiver contacts and provides additional written, pertinent information as indicated.
  • Participates in patient care conferences and interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Provides consultation, education and support to the interdisciplinary team on spiritual care.
  • Provides for funeral or memorial services or other services as requested by patient/families.
  • Provides bereavement support.
  • Provides spiritual/pastoral support to staff.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Spiritual Care and Education

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master level education in ministry or pastoral counseling from an accredited educational institution (equivalency may be considered by Manager).
  • Ordained/Endorsed by recognized religious body/proper ecclesiastical authority.
  • Certified (or eligible) Chaplain by Association of Professional Chaplains (APC)
  • At least 2-3 years of work experience in pastoral care or counseling settings.
  • Excellent oral, written and listening communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and independently.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the hospital ministry process.
  • Effective communication with professionals of all disciplines.
  • Emotional maturity: ability to cope effectively with stress, trauma and continual loss situations.
  • Understanding and acceptance of WellSpan Health’s Mission, Vision and Values.

 

LOCATION: This position is servicing our patients at the WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital and area.
