Position Summary:

General Summary:

Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties and functions to assist the Laboratory Director in the management and operation of Laboratory Services. Plans, organizes, controls and supervises personnel and work activities in one or more divisions of the laboratory. Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. Performs administrative on-call duties as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  1  Demonstrates excellent leadership skills including: coaching and empowering teams; communicates and listens well to others, fostering well-being and career development; works productively towards goals and results; understands and articulates a clear vision and strategy.

   2  Establishes and maintains an interdependent, high performing team. Identifies and nurtures leaders and staff through effective communication, mentoring, coaching, hiring, training and skills competency.

   3  Consults with technical directors, medical staff and other health care providers on matters relating to laboratory services.

   4  Provides direction, supervision and coordination for phlebotomy functions, staffing and activities in assigned area(s).

   5  Implements the Quality Management Program for the assigned area(s), ensuring alignment with system and hospital goals. Collaborates with Operations Manager-Laboratory Quality Systems on topics related to quality, safety, compliance.

   6  Maintains awareness of emerging technology and clinical advancements in assigned area(s)

   7  Participates with Laboratory Leadership to provide strategic plans to improve efficiency of laboratory operations within the local hospital as well as the healthcare system.



Required Skills

Minimum Education:     Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education:     Master’s Degree                                     

Minimum Experience:   5 - 8 years of Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience. Ideal candidates have medical technology, phlebotomy or a related science experience.

Thorough understanding of management & technical principles; familiarity with information systems preferred
