Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Clinical Supervisor and/or the Practice Manager or Provider, provides safe, therapeutic and efficient care and services to patients. Functions as a member of the health care team to assist in the planning and implementation of patient care to include specimen procurement, clerical, office, and/or other assigned areas at an entry skills level. May be required to accept on-call responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Obtains certification as a DOT urine drug screen and breath alcohol technician. Collects specimens as directed. Uses appropriate equipment and protocols for specimen collection, processing, handling, and storage. Ensures all specimens are tracked and logged prior to transportation to lab.
  2. Performs basic office procedures and/or tests at demonstrated level of skill competence (i.e. Audiograms, spirometry, vision tests, POC testing, etc.).
  3. Obtains and documents reason for visit, patient vital signs- temperature, blood pressure, weight, BMI, respirations, and pulse.
  4. Obtains and performs venipuncture in accordance with the WellSpan phlebotomy training course.
  5. Ensures all patient care areas are adequately stocked with unexpired medical supplies and has equipment that is in good working condition with up to date biomedical assessment checks. Properly handles, stores, and cleans instruments, equipment, and supplies per manufacturer guidelines.
  6. Proficient in utilization of essential electronic platforms including eScreen and Systoc. Understands how to utilize systems properly for documentation to include but not limited to scheduling, treatment, referrals and discharge. Also, able to enter and retrieve data from both systems.
  7. Obtains and documents health information from patient at scheduled visit.
  8. Efficiently manages daily patient flow to manage fluctuating patient volumes and demands. Prioritizes daily patient care tasks and activities that are delegated by the care team.
  9. Under the direction of your supervisor, takes ownership in an office function/process improvement.
  10. Maintains strict confidentiality of patient’s health information. Completes annual WSH Corporate Compliance, and other mandatory education.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education:
    • High School diploma or GED
  • Required Certification:
    • National certification as a Phlebotomy Technician
