Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager, coordinates specialty instrumentation, equipment, supplies and implants on a daily basis. Uses his/her in-depth knowledge of technical, clinical and procedural skills to evaluate instruments and equipment for their specialty. Provides leadership to the Operating Room staff by helping them reach their potential and role models professionalism.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Common Expectations:

  1. Assists manager with development, implementation and assurance of compliance with policies and procedures.
  2. Participates in OR specialty member evaluations by providing feedback about job performance to the Nurse Manager.
  3. Participates in interviews for specialty team selection.
  4. Uses effective conflict resolution techniques.
  5. Mentors team members within the specialty as required.
  6. Serves as a role model of professional behavior.
  7. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
  8. Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  9. Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  10. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  11. Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
  12. The following are nonessential job accountabilities for ADA
  13. Attends meetings as required.
  14. Performs other related duties as identified.
 

Qualifications

  • Notes:
    • Other combinations of formal education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum Experience:
    • 3 years of Operating Room experience
  • Minimum Education:
    • Bachelor's Degree
  • Required Certification:
    • Registration and current RN license in PA; Basic Life Support; other certification as appropriate (e.g., CNOR, SGNA, CPAN, CAPA, etc.)
  • Physical Demands:
    • Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking
    • Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients
    • Lifts supplies/equipment
    • Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching
  • Skills:
    • Demonstrates strong leadership qualities, with excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, flexibility and willingness to learn; Self motivated and capable of working independently and as a team member, analytical problem solving abilities, ability to use tact and diplomacy in dealing with people internal and external customers
