Nursing Support Aide - Days/Evenings

Float Nursing Staff
PRN (As Needed - Minimum work commitment is 24 hours within a 6-week schedule)

General Summary:
Under direct supervision of a registered nurse, provides clinical support services to patient care staff by performing a variety of duties related to patient care. The Nursing Support Aide takes patient vital signs, assists patients with activities of daily living (e.g., bathing, feeding, toileting, etc.), inventories and replenishes supplies and equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides general nursing care and personal care assistance to patients including bathing, feeding, toileting and changing bed linens.
- Recognizes and reports changes in patient condition to the registered nurse.
- Possess the knowledge and skills to keep patients safe as outline in the Fall Risk Program
- Performs purposeful hourly rounds to identify and address patient needs.
- Obtains patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight, respiration and pulse and reports results to the RN.
- Performs blood glucose point of care testing and quality control procedures. Reports glucose results to the RN.
- Assists in the preparation and transportation of patients to tests and procedures
- Assists in delivering meal trays and assists with feeding as needed.
- Obtains and removes equipment and supplies necessary for patient care.
- Responsible for maintaining, cleaning, and storing equipment appropriately.
- Maintains par levels of supplies and equipment on assigned unit(s). Notifies supervisor when reorder is reached.
- Responsible for stocking patient rooms, nursing areas, supply carts, etc. with appropriate items at required levels
- Responds to patient call bells.
- Obtains accurate Intake and output on patients and reports results to the RN.
- Performs accurate patient weights.
Qualifications:
Note: Other combinations of formal education, training and experience may be considered.
Minimum Education Ability to read, write, understand and speak English at a level which enables the individual to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job.
Preferred Education High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Minimum Experience None
Req Cert/Registration BLS certification; Valid work permit
Physical Demands Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking; position pushes and/or transfers patients and pushes/pulls or moves supplies
Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching
Working Conditions May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases
May be exposed to/occasionally exposed to patient elements
Exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illness)
May be exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases
