Part Time (48 Hours Biweekly)

Evening/Night Shift (7:00 p.m. - 7:30 a.m.)

Every other weekend and every other holiday

 

Job Description:

 

Under direct supervision, provides clinical support services to patient care staff by performing a variety of duties related to patient care. Takes patient vital signs, assists patients with activities of daily living (e.g., bathing, feeding, toileting, etc.), inventories and replenishes supplies and equipment, and performs special assigned and or delegated duties such as performing EKGs, Point-of-Care testing, phlebotomy and splinting.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Provides general nursing care and personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, eating, changing bed linens, toileting and positioning.
  2. Assists in the preparation and transportation of patients for tests, procedures, etc.
  3. Monitors patient condition levels; reports changes to the Registered Nurse.
  4. Documentation in ECare pain scale, input and output, removing foley catheters, vital signs and reports abnormal values to the RN. Collects specimens such as blood, urine or sputum using approved techniques and procedures. Obtains and documents temperature, blood pressure, weight, respiration, pulse and pulse oxygen. Monitors patient condition levels; reports changes to the appropriate individuals.
  5. Sets up and removes equipment and supplies; ensures equipment is functioning properly and stored appropriately.
  6. Performs EKGs and/or Point-of-Care testing which may include blood glucose, hemocult and specific gravity testing. Reports glucose to RN.
  7. .Under direction of registered nurse, inserts saline lock
  8. .Under direction of registered nurse, perform prefab splint application
  9. Runs special errands as required. Responds to call lights.
  10. Ensures patient rooms, nursing areas, supply carts, etc. are stocked with appropriate items at required levels.
  11. Maintains par levels of supplies in the Emergency Department.
  12. Applies splints and immobilization devices and outfits patients with crutches.
  13. Maintains a visible presence in the Emergency Department between tasks.
  14. Establishes a rapport with EMS providers, assists RN and EMS with initial patient contact and care upon arrival to ED bed and directs EMTs and Paramedics to RN for transfer of care reporting.
  15. Caring is demonstrated through spiritual, physical, emotional, psychosocial and cultural responsiveness, and is integrated into the plan of care.
  16. . Annual recertification of BERT training.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Minimum Experience:
    • 6 months - 1 year as a Nursing Assistant, EMT or a Nursing Student
  • Minimum Education:
    • High School or G.E.D.
  • Required Certification:
    • CPR certification
  • Preferred Certification:
    • Certified Nursing Assistant
  • Physical Demands:
    • Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking
    • Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients
    • Pushes/pulls or moves/lifts heavy equipment/supplies
    • Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching
