Job Description:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of neurodiagnostic studies to include EEG, evoked potentials and specialized studies in the EEG laboratory and the Operating Rooms, according to established standards and practices.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs all modalities of evoked potentials with high quality results in the laboratory, intensive care units and operating rooms.
- Performs EEG/EP recordings during neurosurgical intraoperative studies, and advanced recordings during special studies. Performs long term epilepsy monitoring.
- Assists with, or performs clinical research procedures as directed.
- Performs standard and complex EEG-evoked potential recordings as ordered by physician.
- Prepares the patient, explains the procedure and ensures patient's cooperation during the examination.
- Selects predetermined electrode combinations as well as special combinations made necessary by the case under study.
- Applies suitable electrodes on predetermined measured positions on the patient's head and checks their performance.
- Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department, such as evaluation results, individualized treatment plans, progress reports, and other such reports.
- Prepares preliminary reports addressed to the patient's physician.
- Responsible for the training of EEG students, to include paperwork required to their school and testing requirements.
- Onboarding of new EEG technicians.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Experience:
- 2 - 3 years
- Minimum Education:
- Associate’s Degree
- Required Certification:
- R. EEG. T. (Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist) or R.NCS.T (Registered Nerve Conduction Study Technologist); BCLS certification
- Required Courses:
- Course in electroencephalography or on-the-job training
- Physical Demands:
- Frequent prolonged standing/walking
