Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Clinical Supervisor or Clinical Manager, provides clinical support and guidance for the clinical work and workflows within the practice. Serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for clinical staff in support of the Clinical Supervisor or Clinical Manager. May be involved problem solving, and the quality improvement activities for the office. Provides safe, therapeutic and efficient care and services to patients. Assists in the care of patients, performs treatments, and administers medications and instructs patients and their families in appropriate care, as directed by the provider and within appropriate clinical scope.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Performs the duties of a Medical Assistant.
  2. Ensures the required documentation of quality control inspections are completed, which may include documentation of temperature readings, expiration date assessment and the maintenance of emergency supplies and equipment.
  3. Assists in the referral process by answering questions from other staff regarding referrals.
  4. Supports clinical supply ordering/receiving.
  5. Acts as a subject matter expert and clinical resource for staff and patients.
  6. Ensures that clinical staff are competency trained on Point of Care testing and monitoring of equipment, if applicable.
  7. Monitors Point of Care quality controls to ensure they are performed per policy and procedure, if applicable.
  8. Supports audits for effectiveness of clinical workflows for the office. Reports any observed bottlenecks, as needed.
  9. Monitors monthly clinical check lists to ensure that delegated quality checks are being performed and, when found to be out of normal range, are handled in a timely and effective manner.
  10. Provides the Clinical Supervisor, Clinical Manager and/or the Practice Manager with timely communication regarding all clinical concerns and issues for the office.
  11. Provides staff training for clinical updates/changes.
  12. For Practices enrolled in the VFC (Vaccines for Children) Program:
  13. Is responsible for duties which may include: Point person for VFC surveys and ordering vaccines from VFC. Includes preparing and providing vaccine reports to the state.
  14. Monitors refrigerator temperatures (for both vaccines & specimen refrigerators.)
  15. Regularly monitors the completion of refrigerator logs, to assure that readings are completed twice a day by delegated clinician, and that temperatures are within appropriate ranges.
  16. Responsible for reporting to the Clinical Supervisor, Clinical Manager, Office/Practice Manager or designee when temperatures readings are out of range.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Experience:
    • 4-5 years
  • Minimum Education:
    • Associate degree or Diploma in Medical Assisting or Medical Assistant Certification
