Position Summary:

 

General Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, Provider, and/or direct supervisor, provides safe, therapeutic and efficient care and services to patients. Functions as a member of the health care team to assist in the planning and implementation of patient care to include specimen procurement, clerical, office, and/or other assigned areas at an entry skills level. Must have the ability to cover other occupational health clinics as well as onsite needs. May be required to accept on-call responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are essential job accountabilities:

  1. Proficient in utilization of Occupational Health specific electronic health record platform to include but not limited to referencing employer requirements, scheduling, treatment, referrals, discharge and transmission of post-visit test results. Enter patient information into and/or retrieve information from all relevant electronic health record systems.
  2. Obtains certification as a DOT urine drug screen and breath alcohol technician. Collects specimens as directed. Uses appropriate equipment and protocols for specimen collection, processing, handling, and storage. Ensures all specimens are tracked and logged prior to transportation to lab.
  3. Performs and documents clinical procedures and/or tests at demonstrated level of skill competence (i.e., audiograms, spirometry, respirator fit testing, vision tests, POC testing, etc.). Ensures inspections, calibrations, and/or quality controls are maintained per manufacturer guidelines.
  4. Obtains and documents reason for visit and patient vital signs (i.e., temperature, blood pressure, weight, BMI, respirations, and pulse, etc.).
  5. Performs/assists and documents examinations, procedures and other tasks (i.e., tuberculin skin tests, vaccines, injectable medications, etc.) related to direct patient care. Provides appropriate patient education through teach back.
  6. Obtains and performs venipuncture in accordance with the WellSpan phlebotomy training course.
  7. Ensures all patient care areas are clean and adequately stocked with unexpired medical supplies and has equipment that is in good working condition with up to date biomedical assessment checks. Follows manufacturer guidelines regarding proper handling, storage, and care.
  8. Efficiently manages daily patient flow to manage fluctuating patient volumes and demands. Prioritizes daily patient care tasks and activities that are delegated by the care team.
  9. Answers incoming calls with exceptional customer service skills and manages the needs of each patient appropriately (i.e., scheduling appointments, routing callers, taking messages and providing routine information). Retrieves and response to voicemail messages.
  10. Registers scheduled and walk in patient appointments.
  11. Ensure patients and/or employers receive appropriate paperwork at the completion of the appointment.
  12. Performs and documents clerical tasks (i.e., scanning, faxing, emailing, mailing, etc.).
  13. Schedules appointments for patients with other provider offices and/or facilities including correct processing of referral forms and documentation in the electronic health record system.
  14. Processes patient charges and collects payment; completes end of day payment reconciliation.
  15. Processes requests for patient information according to policies and procedures, including medical record requests.
  16. Under the direction of your supervisor, takes ownership in an office function/process improvement.
  17. Maintains strict confidentiality of patient’s health information. Completes annual WSH Corporate Compliance, and other mandatory education.
  18. Considers the perspectives and needs of both the employer as well as the patient when delivering care and incorporates both in the overall experience delivery.

  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with a 4-6 week clinically focused externship/internship in a physician office setting
  • National certification as a medical assistant, Required
