Manager - Spiritual Care & Education
Job Description:
Under the general supervision of the Director-Spiritual Care & Education, manages the Clinical Pastoral Education Program and other Spiritual Care training programs for chaplain interns and residents, hospital staff members and the community. Provides spiritual counseling and guidance to patients, families, and staff and performs or arranges for religious services to meet patient needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages all aspects of the Clinical Pastoral Education Program including developing and administering the program, performing instructional duties, program evaluation, planning and budgeting.
- Visits newly admitted patients on a spiritual level, make routine visits to patients, providing counsel and guidance as requested/needed. Cooperates with health care team in assisting patient to make personal adjustments.
- Meets with patients and employees upon request for spiritual care and counseling. Arranges for group counseling and discussions.
- Administers the sacraments and performs religious rites such as baptism, or arranges for appropriate religious leader to do so.
- Evaluates patient needs for spiritual guidance and counseling and initiates or recommends individual programs and services to meet those needs.
- Consults with hospital staff regarding hospital ministry. Collaborates with members of the hospital care team in
- identifying and resolving problems. Acts as a liaison between patient, family, and hospital staff during periods of crisis,
- e.g. illness, dying, lengthy or difficult surgery.
- Completes medical chart documentation in general and as required in specific religious rites such as baptism.
Qualifications
- Notes:
- Other combinations of formal education, training and experience may be considered.
- Minimum Experience:
- 3 - 5 years
- Previous Healthcare experience is a plus
- Minimum Education:
- Master's Degree in Divinity or related fields.
- Preferred Courses:
- Spiritual Care, Education, Management
- Required Certification:
- ACPE Certified Educator;
- Ordained/Commissioned by recognized religious body & endorsed by proper ecclesiastical authority
