General Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Director-Communications, Communication Managers manage integrated internal and external communications plans and/or manage specific communications channels, such as social media, publications and media relations. Communication Manages interfaces with system executives and other leaders; adopt best-in-class approaches and process in strategic communications, corporate communications, executive communications, media and community relations, content strategy and social media. Communications Managers contribute to an overall systemwide communications strategy to help build positive reputation and relationships between the organization and its internal and external constituencies, shaping and advancing WellSpan’s message and brand strategy throughout the organization and across the service region to support consumer growth and loyalty. Communications Managers contribute to an integrated, collaborative, data-driven Communications Team that is known for high reliability and excellence in execution.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

   1   Works collaboratively with regional, medical group and business support leaders and members of the health system's Communications Team to identify priorities and develop/implement annual plans to support Top Tier business priorities or advance best-in-class communication channels.

   2   Regularly scans internal and external environment for best practices and opportunities; manages issues and opportunities impacting the system’s reputation and brand; executes communication strategies and communication channels to develop an engaged workforce, build the WellSpan brand and advance the system’s local, regional and system-wide priorities.

   3   Manages media relations strategies and activities including the development of news releases, op-eds, story placement strategies, sponsorships strategies, community event strategies, crisis communications/issues management activities, etc. Supports the system’s public information officers and participates in disaster planning activities. 

   4   Manages internal communication strategies to enhance employee engagement; develops communication plans, elevator speeches, newsletters, articles, blog posts and presentations, and actively participates in the planning and execution of various leadership and employee meetings.

   5   Develops metrics for all communication plans, contributes to function’s dashboards and embraces evidence-based communication planning.

   6   Plans, organizes and promotes special events, open houses and other related activities, in coordination with appropriate members of the Communications Team.

   7   Ensures compliance with WellSpan brand identity and nomenclature standards across all services, physician practices and facilities within local system of care.

    8  Responsible for photography and videography of system functions other related activities.

 

Qualifications:

  Minimum Education             Bachelor's Degree

                                              

  Minimum Experience            5 - 7 years

                                              

  Min Field of Expertise           Communications, Journalism or Public Relations, preferably with experience in a large, complex healthcare organization

 

  Skills: Other                        Excellent written/oral communications and interpersonal skills; computer skills (word processing); strong journalistic writing and copyediting skills
