General Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Director, Accreditation and Licensure with a strong matrixed relationship to the Vice Presidents for Medical Affairs in the region, provides direct oversight of the functions and activities of the medical staff offices in the region to ensure successful operation of its processes and management of its staff.  Performs a wide variety of administrative and leadership functions including, but not limited to: overseeing an effective and efficient medical staff credentialing and privileging process in coordination with the WSH CVO and physician and APC practices, helps successfully onboard medical staff, supports the administrative needs of medical staff officers and medical staff committees as requested, facilitates information flow, through medical staff and clinical management.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Provides oversight, support, and expertise in credentialing, bylaws, rules and regulations related to the medical staff in the region.
  2. Establishes and maintains professional relationships with new and current medical staff members and is the resource for all medical staff, medical staff officers, committee chairs, and Medical Staff Department Chairs in the region.
  3. Collaborates with the System and entity credentialing offices to ensure best practices, standardization, efficiencies, and the utilization of technology to support these activities.
  4. Manages expenses and other needs for the Medical Staff Services department in the region as assigned.  Supervises and completes performance evaluations for all Medical Staff Services staff in the region.
  5. In collaboration with the VPMAs and Chairs and members of the Credentials Committee(s) in the region, is accountable to support the work and mission of the Committee and ensure the accurate documentation of its activities.
  6. Works closely with Medical Staff Chairs in the region on matters related to credentialing and privileging.
  7. Works in collaboration with WSH Accreditation and Licensure, Peer Review, and Quality leadership as requested.
  8. Ensures that hospitals in the region remain in compliance with all accreditation and licensure requirements and best practices as they relates to Medical Staff requirements and credentialing activities in the region.   
  9. Ensures a service culture of excellence is maintained with all internal and external customers.   
  10. Works with the VPMA, Office of Organizational Learning and Development, and Director of GME/CME to support required medical staff competencies for all quality improvement initiatives, policy, regulatory requirements, electronic health record, and professional growth/development.
  11. Provides needed administrative support for the Medical Staff Officers and Medical Staff Committee Chairs in the region. 
  12. Schedules, coordinates and/or arranges meetings, appointments and/or facilities. Attends meetings and records minutes, as required.

  2. Develops, supports, and encourages educational opportunities for Medical Staff Services professionals

15   Fosters systemness and information sharing between entities for the development and implementation of best    practices

 

 

Qualifications:

 

  Note:                                 Other combinations of formal education, training and experience may be considered.

 

  Minimum Education          Bachelor's Degree

 

  Required Certification       CPCS (Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or Certified Professional Medical Services                                                               Management (CPMSM), if eligible or within 5 years

   

  Minimum Experience        5 years in a healthcare-related role

    

  Skills: Other                        Excellent communication/interpersonal skills; managerial skills; computer skills; ability to work with health care                                                teams, physicians, dentists and allied health professionals; familiarity with Performance Improvement and                                                        accreditation standards.
