Job Description:

Under the direction of Food & Nutrition Director, manages the food-related services to patient care areas throughout the organization. Coordinates staffing assignments on daily work shifts to provide adequate coverage for departmental operations. Supports departmental Patient Services staff to ensure accuracy, efficiency and quality of services. Ensures that safety, sanitation, and quality documentation tools are completed as required. Provides high quality customer service, as reflected by patient satisfaction survey results.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:


1. Ensures that all staff demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with staff and customers throughout the organization.

2. Ensures compliance with hospital and departmental policies for safety, sanitation, isolation and uniform standards.

3. Ensures compliance with Hospital and departmental policies and guidelines for attendance, including appropriate notification.

4. Manages daily staffing and adjusts schedule accordingly to provide adequate coverage in all areas of department operations.

5. Provides direct support for patient services operations when coverage is needed due to staffing shortages.

6. Manages work shift and break times of staff to ensure timely and efficient execution of department operations.

7. Communicates to Director or designee any issues relating to staff performance and daily operations. Collaborates with the Director in evaluation and disciplinary processes.

8. Attends and contributes to Daily Line-up meeting conducted during work shift.

9. Uses Epic system to generate designated reports, processes and analyzes information and distributes as directed.

10. Generates and distributes inpatient diet lists and tray tickets for Catering Associates prior to each meal service. Communicates any special service needs to Catering Associates. Monitors the service to patients by Catering Associates, including menu selections, tray assembly, delivery and pickup, nourishment delivery, and floor stock service.

11. Utilizes assigned SpectraLink mobile phone and answers phone calls (x7355) live. Ensures that Patient Services staff follow the departmental mobile phone usage procedures, and that all phones are accounted for and operational.

12. Ensures safe food handling and storage procedures are followed and documented for Patient Services trayline area, including completion of all applicable temperature and sanitation logs. Documents that equipment meets operational standards of performance. Communicates any issues to Director or designee.

13. Monitors patient food quality by working with departmental Patient Services and Production staff. Ensures that Trayline Taste/Temperature Record is completed at each meal period. Conducts and documents Patient Test Tray evaluations as assigned. Identifies opportunities for improvement and communicates issues to Director or designee.

14. Coordinates patient trayline operations and provides support services during meal periods. Ensures that trayline area is adequately restocked and that sanitation guidelines are followed by Patient Services, Utility, and Production staff.

15. Coordinates the assembly, delivery, and collection of NOW trays. Ensures that NOW tray service is conducted in a timely and efficient manner, and documented accurately.

16. Ensures accuracy of patient meal trays by utilizing Tray Accuracy Assessment and Food Allergy Documentation tools.

17. Supports Catering Associate training and development through use of Shadow Reports and competency tools.

18. Promotes a positive relationship between Patient Services and Food & Nutrition department. Conducts visitation rounds on assigned units, communicates with nursing staff, and performs service recovery as needed. Completes Unit Kitchen Sanitation Check List as assigned.

19. Analyzes Press Ganey survey scores and reviews with other management and staff in order to meet departmental patient satisfaction benchmarks.

20. Completes departmental Opening and/or Closing Checklist for work shift and provides feedback to employees.

21. Ensures employee attendance at departmental in-services.

22. Performs other duties as assigned by management, the Director of Food & Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition Manager, or designee.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Experience:
    • 2 - 3 years
  • Minimum Education:
    • Associate's Degree
  • Minimum Field Of Expertise:
    • Foods, nutrition or food service admin including cafeteria related admin/supervisory
    • techniques
  • Physical Demands:
    • Moderate physical effort (lift/carry 11 to 25 lbs)
    • Occasional prolonged standing/walking
    • Lifts supplies/equipment
  • Skills:
    • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills; Basic computer skilll
