Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Operating Room - Days/Evenings

Full Time (80 Hours Biweekly)
Day/Evening Shifts
May be scheduled any combination of the following shifts:
7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
11:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
On call rotation (evenings, weekends [Saturday & Sunday] & holidays)
General Summary:
Under the supervision of a registered professional nurse, provides nursing care to patients in an Operating Room environment. Assists clinical team with preparation and completion of care of patients undergoing surgery and/or procedure.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides general nursing care and personal care assistance to patients, including checking vital signs, charting test results, application of preop CHG wipes
- Prepares the operating room for cases by setting up table, instruments and supplies according to type of case.
- Prepares room between procedures and after terminal cleaning. Monitors and restocks supplies.
- Assists in positioning and draping of patients for surgical procedures.
- Assists the surgical team during operative procedures.
- Maintain correct count of instruments, sutures and sponges.
- Prepares patient skin for surgery in accordance with hospital standards.
- Maintains aseptic techniques; actively monitors situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
- Performs point of use care of instruments.
- Assists surgeons during operations / procedures such as retracting tissues, cutting of sutures under direction/supervision.
- Identifies and cares for specimens.
- May be required to rotate work between the hospital and an ambulatory setting
Qualifications:
Other combinations of formal education, training and experience may be considered.
- Minimum Education: Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training
- Minimum Experience: 2 years
- Required Certification/Registration: Current LPN license in PA; BCLS/ACLS/PALS certification, as required; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Required Course(s)/Training: Completion of accredited LPN program; rhythm recognition course per unit of assignment
