York Hospital is a Level I trauma center as well as a comprehensive stroke and chest pain accredited center. The newly renovated ED has 54 treatment spaces, a 3 bed Trauma Bay, and a secure unit for Behavioral Health patients. Our staff includes Registered Nurses, Emergency Nursing Assistants and Emergency Clinical Assistants. The ED uses Lean Daily Management for process improvement, utilizes a robust Shared Decision Making model for practice initiatives and changes and uses self-scheduling to help staff maintain work/life balance.

Job Description:
Under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN), provides nursing care to patients at an advanced level of practice. Takes patient vital signs, assists with procedures/examinations, administers medications, assists patient with activities of daily living (bathing, feeding, etc.) and instructs patients and their families in appropriate care.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Under appropriate supervision, administers and controls narcotics and medications.
- Provides general nursing care and personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, eating, changing bed linens and bed pans and positioning.
- Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
- Helps patients get into and out of chairs, lifts patients, raises patients in beds, and turns the patients.
- Checks patient's vital signs.
- Charts results of various tests.
- Monitors medical condition of patients and reports changes to appropriate personnel.
- Prepares patients for scheduled procedures to assist in patient assessment.
- Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.
- Arranges for patients' ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services.
- Provides health care instruction/education to patient and family members.
- Ensures accurate maintenance of patients' medical records and that patient records are treated as confidential information.
- Performs a variety of nursing administrative duties.
- Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.
- Coordinates with emergency department care team with patient flow of department including waiting room, behavioral health area, core pods 1 & 2, and rapid area, providing assistance for patients of all acuity and ages.
Qualifications
- Minimum Experience:
- 1 year required for interview consideration
- Minimum Education:
- Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training
- Required Certification:
- Current LPN license in PA; BCLS/ACLS/PALS certification, as required; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; IV therapy certification (must obtain within a year of hire date)
- Required Courses:
- Completion of accredited LPN program; rhythm recognition course per unit of assignment
- Physical Demands:
- Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking
- Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients
- Lifts supplies/equipment
- Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching
