Licensed Practical Nurse- B1 Med/Surg - Day/Evening Night

Provides evidence-based nursing care to patients and families (including significant others) using the nursing process of assessment, nursing diagnosis, implementation of interventions and evaluation of the patient response to care.  Nursing care includes physiological assessment and monitoring, psychosocial assessment and support, patient/family education; maintaining a safe environment conducive to healing and managing transitions of care. B1 is a 26-bed medical surgical unit with an emphasis on treatment of oncology and surgical patients who require inpatient care.

Job Description:

Under the supervision of a registered professional nurse, provides nursing care to patients at an advanced level of practice. Takes patient vital signs, assists with procedures/examinations, administers medications, assists patient with activities of daily living (bathing, feeding, etc.) and instructs patients and their families in appropriate care.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Under appropriate supervision, administers and controls narcotics and medications.
2. Provides general nursing care and personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, eating, changing bed linens and bed pans and positioning.
3. Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
4. Helps patients get into and out of chairs, lifts patients, raises patients in beds, and turns the patients.
5. Checks patient's vital signs.
6. Charts results of various tests.
7. Monitors medical condition of patients and reports changes to appropriate personnel.
8. Prepares patients for scheduled procedures to assist in patient assessment.
9. Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.
10. Arranges for patients' ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services.
11. Provides health care instruction/education to patient and family members.
12. Ensures accurate maintenance of patients' medical records and that patient records are treated as confidential information.
13. Performs a variety of nursing administrative duties.
14. Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.

Qualifications

• Minimum Experience:
  • 1 - 2 years
• Minimum Education:
  • Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training
• Required Certification:
  • Current LPN license in PA; BCLS/ACLS/PALS certification, as required; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Required Courses:
  • Completion of accredited LPN program; rhythm recognition course per unit of assignment
