General Summary:


Under the general supervision of the appropriate supervisor, serves primarily as a lead technician, performing routine and specialized technical and some general support duties in specimen procurement, central processing, blood resources, anatomic pathology, and/or a technical section. Functions in on- and/or off-site service areas. May work any part of a 24 hour period. Routinely obtains and disseminates information. May be required to accept on-call responsibilities.


Duties and Responsibilities:


1 Responsible for daily operations of assigned area.
2 Assists in selecting, training, orienting and evaluating staff. Prepares work schedules and makes recommendations for
personnel actions.
3 May document competency of employees and provide feedback to appropriate managers and/or supervisors regarding
4 Performs routine and/or specialized testing and procedures with supervision as appropriate.
5 Performs the duties of a Laboratory Technician II.
6 Performs a variety of duties at progressively greater skill levels under varying degrees of supervision; records results. May
operate a variety of laboratory instruments.
7 May assist with autopsies and other duties as directed by the Coroner and/or pathologist.
8 Enters or retrieves data from established computer files.

Required Skills

Minimum Education              

High School or G.E.D.



Minimum Experience           

2 - 3 years Pathology transcription experience

Registration and requisition scanning experience 

Slide and block filing and retrieval experience

Excellent communication and computer skills



Pref Course(s)/Training Medical Terminology

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Phlebotomy Program if



Possess Must possess a valid driver’s license in the current state of residence.  Driving record must meet requirements established by WellSpan Risk Management.
