Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the appropriate supervisor, serves primarily as a lead technician, performing routine and specialized technical and some general support duties in specimen procurement, central processing, blood resources, anatomic pathology, and/or a technical section. Functions in on- and/or off-site service areas. May work any part of a 24-hour period. Routinely obtains and disseminates information. May be required to accept on-call responsibilities.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for daily operations of assigned area.
  2. Assists in selecting, training, orienting and evaluating staff. Prepares work schedules and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  3. May document competency of employees and provide feedback to appropriate managers and/or supervisors regarding progress.
  4. Performs routine and/or specialized testing and procedures with supervision as appropriate.
  5. Performs the duties of a Laboratory Technician II.
  6. Performs a variety of duties at progressively greater skill levels under varying degrees of supervision; records results. May operate a variety of laboratory instruments.
  7. May assist with autopsies and other duties as directed by the Coroner and/or pathologist.
  8. Enters or retrieves data from established computer files.
 

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Experience:
    • 2 - 3 years
  • Minimum Education:
    • High School or G.E.D.
  • Preferred Courses:
    • Medical Terminology; Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Phlebotomy Program if applicable
  • Required Certification:
    • Phlebotomy certification, if applicable
  • Physical Demands:
    • Heavy physical effort (lift/carry 26 to 50 lbs)
    • Frequent prolonged standing/walking
    • Occasionally lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients
    • Lifts supplies/equipment
    • Manual dexterity and mobility
    • Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching
  • Skills:
    • (Donor Center)Performs component preparation and platelet apheresis; Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Req Protective Equipment-
      • Eye Protection
      • Face Protection
      • Lab Coat or Apron
      • Mask
      • Non-Sterile Medical Gloves
      • Sterile Medical Gloves
