Laboratory Support Technician III (Anatomic Pathology)
Part Time
Day Shift
Monday - Friday; 7am-330pm
(5 Days in a biweekly schedule- Flexible)
Job Description:
Under the general supervision of the appropriate supervisor, performs a variety of general support and technical duties in specimen procurement, central processing, clerical office, blood resources, anatomic pathology, and/or a technical section. May function in on- and/or off-site service areas. May serve as an instructor for the Phlebotomy Program. May work any part of a 24 hour period. May perform occasional in-charge duties in the absence of immediate supervisor. Routinely obtains and disseminates information. May be required to accept on-call responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- May serve as an instructor for the Phlebotomy Program. May conduct interviews. May document competency of students and provide feedback to appropriate managers and/or supervisors regarding progress. Maintains open lines of communication with Laboratory Education & Safety Specialist regarding the Phlebotomy Program and other training initiatives. Obtains feedback from students to improve the training for Support Services.
- May identify quality issues as they relate to educational, safety and laboratory function with regard to Support Services.
- Reports safety concerns, violations and/or questions to the appropriate individual and may assist with the completion of reports, summaries and inspections in order to assist with compliance safety related agencies. May conduct regularly scheduled fire drills and safety audits, and maintain accurate and complete Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) libraries for area(s) of assignment.
- Oversees the work of other personnel by training, allocating and monitoring work. Performs work of a similar nature.
- Performs the duties of a Laboratory Technician II.
- Performs routine and/or specialized testing and procedures with supervision as appropriate.
- Performs a variety of duties at progressively greater skill levels under varying degrees of supervision; records results. May operate a variety of laboratory instruments.
- May assist with autopsies and other duties as directed by the Coroner and/or pathologist.
- Enters or retrieves data from established computer files.
Qualifications:
- High School or G.E.D.
- Medical Terminology
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
- Phlebotomy Program if applicable
- Phlebotomy certification, if applicable
- Other combinations of formal education, training and experience may be considered.
- 1 - 2 years experience
