Position Summary:


***Saturday Day Shift***

***Hours between 7:30am - 4:00pm***



General Summary:




Under the direct supervision of the appropriate supervisor, performs a variety of general support duties in specimen procurement, clerical office, central processing, and/or other assigned areas at an entry skills level. Functions in on- and/or off-site service areas. May work any part of a 24 hour period. May be required to accept on-call responsibilities.


Duties and Responsibilities:



   1   Answers telephones, routes callers, takes messages and provides routine information to callers.

   2   May receive specimens into the laboratory, process specimens, deliver specimens to on- and off-site locations, store

       specimens for future analysis and dispose of specimens.

   3   May receive and transport supplies, equipment, reports and specimens between the laboratory and other health care


   4   May collect specimens as directed using appropriate or specified equipment for collecting and handling specimens.

   5   Enters or retrieves data from established computer files.

   6   Provides complete and accurate instructions to patients and other customers of the laboratory.

Required Skills

Minimum Education              

High School or G.E.D.



Pref Course(s)/Training       

Medical terminology; Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) if applicable

Exposed to infection from disease-bearing specimens


Exposed to hazards of handling diseased organs and tissues


Subject to electrical and radiant energy hazards


Exposed to odorous chemicals/specimens


Exposed to housekeeping/cleaning agents/chemicals

Subject to hazards of flammable, explosive gases


Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances


Handles emergency or crisis situations


Exposed to hazards of steam and heat


Travel required


May make home visits


Exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases





Must possess a valid driver’s license in the current state of residence. 

Driving record must meet requirements established by WellSpan Risk Management;

Basic computer skills

Good interpersonal/communications skills

Transcription skills
