Job Description:

Under general supervision, provides administrative and clinical support to multiple clinical nursing areas during evening and/or night hours. Is responsible for administrative decisions, selective clinical interventions, staffing, and safety of patients, visitors, staff and meeting in-service education needs.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Accountabilities:

  1. Administers the nursing program during the evening or night shifts and coordinates its activities. Promotes cooperation of the staff to achieve department objectives and maintain good department relations.
  2. Receives and reviews preceding shift reports and floor nurse reports; makes complete rounds of all units, and notes Patients' condition.
  3. Directs maintenance of departmental facilities, equipment, supplies and materials in a condition to promote efficiency, Health, comfort, and safety of patients and staff.
 

NonEssential Accountabilities:

  1. Recommends sufficient space and other resources required by the department/service line/entity.
  2. Attends meetings as required, and participates on committees as requested.
  3. Performs other related duties as identified.
 

Common Expectations:

  1. Coordinates and integrates services within the department/service line/entity, with other departments/service lines/entities, and with the System's primary functions.
  2. Provides input in developing staffing budgets.
  3. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
  4. Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  5. Recommends staffing levels, selects and assigns staff, evaluates performance, evaluates/tests competencies (as applicable), provides orientation, training and continuing education of staff, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  6. Continuously assesses and improves the department/service line/entity/System's performance. Maintains appropriate quality control/assessment programs (if applicable).
  7. Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  8. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops.
  9. Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
 

Qualifications

  • Notes:
    • Other combinations of formal education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum Experience:
    • 3 - 5 years
  • Minimum Education:
    • Associate's Degree
  • Preferred Education:
    • Bachelor's Degree
  • Preferred Courses:
    • Courses in nursing administration and personnel administration
  • Required Certification:
    • Registration and current RN license in PA; BLS certification
  • Physical Demands:
    • Occasional prolonged standing/walking
