Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Vice President-Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer, coordinates the 24/7 delivery of customer-focused, quality patient care. In case of an emergency, and in concert with the Administrator-on-call, makes decisions for the organization. Oversees the management of resources including, but not limited to, personnel, facilities, supplies, equipment and services.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Accountabilities:

  1. Acts as an administrative liaison between other System entities, Hospital Staff, patients and the community.
  2. Demonstrates good judgment and appropriate decision-making based on a knowledge of policies and procedures.
  3. Notifies the Clinical or Administrative Director on-call concerning issues/incidents with a potential legal implication and/ or effects the delivery of patient care.
  4. Communicates pertinent information to appropriate personnel ( e.g., Administration, Human Resources, IT, Nurse Managers, Infection Control, Safety Brief, etc.) for follow up.
  5. Participates in Hospital's Quality Improvement, Patient Experience Program, Safety Program, and Risk Management Program as indicated or needed.  For example, identifies and reports events via Safety Reporting System (SRS) and Customer Reporting System (CRS), Fitness for Duty, investigates reports, counsels staff, ensures employee work- related injuries are reported following proper procedure, and completes elopement-related responsibilities, etc. Identifies opportunities for improvement.
  6. Assesses, assigns and adjusts staffing based on unit-based staffing plans and as patient care indicates. Maintains and records census on patient care units as required.
  7. Responds appropriately in a disaster situation or drill using the information provided during orientation and ongoing competency training. Is competent to assume role of Incident Commander until relieved.
  8. Releases "condition" reports to the news media per Administrative policies and procedures.
  9. Is available to staff at all times.  Rounds on all units at least once per shift.  Demonstrates customer excellence while educating, training, advising, and assisting staff.
 

NonEssential Accountabilities:

  1. Attends meetings as required, and participates on committees as requested.
  2. Performs other related duties as identified.
 

Common Expectations:

  1. Identifies opportunities for improvement related to safety and efficiency, makes recommendations, as applicable, to the leadership team.  Participates in root cause analyses as requested.
  2. Assists with the employee evaluation process by providing input as requested.
  3. Monitors and evaluates employees' fitness for duty and complies with applicable Hospital policies.
  4. Updates Patient Logistics twice daily of specific type of patient population (Forensic & Sitter) and appropriate bed location.
  5. Completes LMS education assigned annually. Assumes responsibility for own continuing education to enhance personal and professional growth.
  6. Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
 

Qualifications

  • Notes:
    • Other combinations of formal education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum Experience:
    • 3 - 5 years nursing experience
    • Leadership experience preferred 
    • ICU or Emergency experience preferred but not required
  • Minimum Education:
    • Bachelor's Degree
  • Required
    • PA Nursing License
    • BLS
      ACLS
  • Physical Demands:
    • Prolonged standing/walking
