Job Description:
Under the general direction of the Chief Diagnostic Physicist/Radiation Safety Officer, acts as Associate Radiation Safety Officer as part of the entity Radiation Safety Program and ensures the proper calibration and functioning of diagnostic imaging equipment across a matrixed Health System.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in establishing, implementing and reviewing the Radiation Safety Program, including policies, procedures, audits, exposure reviews, etc..
- Conducts diagnostic checks of imaging equipment at required intervals and participates in the assessment of new technology.
- Provides required radiation safety in-services to employees and physicians.
- Maintains radiation measuring equipment and radioactive material inventories.
- Advises patients, physicians and employees of their radiation exposures/doses as required.
- Evaluates accidents/incidents involving radiation/radioactive materials and prepares reports for review and inspection.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Experience:
- 3-5 years with a medical radiation safety program and
- 2 years of experience with compliance testing of diagnostic imaging equipment
- Minimum Education:
- MA/MS degree in Health Physics or related field
- Physical Demands:
- Moderate physical effort (lift/carry 11 to 25 lbs)
- Occasional prolonged standing/walking
- Lifts supplies/equipment
- Manual dexterity and mobility
- Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching
