General Summary:

Under general supervision, provides genetic counseling to high-risk patients and their families.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provides pre- and post-lab testing genetic counseling primarily for cardiology indications.
  2. Elicits and obtains family history and medical information.
  3. Assists in providing professional psychosocial genetic counseling to individuals regarding genetic conditions existing in or posing potential risks to their first-degree relatives.
  4. Offers appropriate medical or genetic testing to individuals/families at risk for genetic diseases or birth defects.
  5. Educates and explains technical and medical aspects of diagnostic and screening methods and reproductive options, including associated risks, benefits and limitations.
  6. Works in close collaboration with our cardiologists and a team of APPs.
  7. Assists in coordinating communication between patient, referring provider, genetic testing labs and other medical professionals in the diagnosis and evaluation of conditions such as sudden cardiac death, channelopathies, dyslipidemia, aortopathies, and cardiomyopathies, including persons with heart failure.
  8. Supports Inherited CV Disease services in satellite clinics via telemedicine/video visits/onsite visits.
  9. Assists in charting, reporting and coordinating clinical testing and test results. Helps others interpret results and determines clinical relevance.
  10. Re-evaluates genetic test results in view of new evidence which may result in reclassification on the assertion of a genetic variant.
  11. Actively participates in education of medical students, residents and attendings of other primary and specialties.
  12. Provides input and participation in research including patient selection, consenting, IRB proposal and grant writing for genomic/precision medicine studies.
  13. Supports system-wide Precision Medicine service. Participates regularly in steering committee and multi-disciplinary genetic counselor meetings.



  • Master's Degree from an accredited genetic counseling training program
  • Minimum Experience 1 - 2 years (new graduates will be considered)
  • Req Cert/Registration Certification with the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC); Current Pennsylvania Genetic Counselor License; FBI/Act 73 Child Abuse Clearance, PA Child Line Child Abuse Clearance, PA Criminal Record Check
