Food Service Worker, Cafeteria - York Hospital - Part Time, Rotating Weekends and Holidays

Job Description:

Under the direct supervision of the Food Services Team Leader, performs a variety of routine duties in the Cafeteria to prepare equipment and food for service.  Serve food and clean up after meals following established department policies and guidelines.  Cook and serve food from short order grill.  Operate cash register as needed including receiving payment from customers, balancing the cash drawer after each meal and obtaining information for required reports.

 

Duties and Responisbilities

  1. Prepare, set up and serve foods from steam table serving line.  Take temperatures of food and document.  Follow portion guide and serve food as directed.  Clean up after meals.
  2. Set up short order grill.  Take temperature of food and document.  Take orders from customers and prepare food as needed.  Clean up after meals.
  3. Run cash register.  Set up and verify starting cash amount in drawer.  Take payments from customers.  Run reports and verify cash amounts at end of shift.
  4. Prepares salads, sandwiches, pizza and a variety of small cold items for sale to customers.
  5. Prepare sandwich salads such as chicken , tuna and egg which require measuring, slicing and mixing of ingredients.
  6. Read and follow recipes for preparation of salads and sandwiches.
  7. Washing and cutting of fruits and vegetables.
  8. Stocking of condiments and other items for customers, such as pre-packaged snacks, utensils, napkins and cups.
  9. Overall sanitation and cleaning of dining room, cafeteria serving areas and prep areas.
  10. Alert supervisor to any problem concerning equipment or food supplies.  Detects and reports spoiled or unattractive food.  Reports any defective supplies, equipment or unusual conditions.
 

Qualifications

  • Minimum Experience:
    • Up to 1 month
  • Minimum Education:
    • Ability to read, write, understand and speak English at a level which enables the individual to
    • satisfactorily perform the functions of the job
  • Physical Demands:
    • Moderate physical effort (lift/carry 11 to 25 lbs)
    • Frequent prolonged standing/walking
    • Subject to burns and cuts
    • Exposed to hazards of steam and heat
    • Exposed to heat, wetness, odors in kitchen and/or patient areas
    • Exposed to varying degrees of kitchen elements
