Job Description

Under the direction of the Supervisor or others assigned, applies a working knowledge with several of the essential job accountabilities. The qualified Facilities Technician should also possess a basic understanding for various other responsibilities represented under the remaining essential job accountability categories.  

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Accountabilities:

  1. Examines machinery or mechanical equipment and identifies reason for malfunction.
  2. Performs maintenance, repair or replacement of broken parts.
  3. Uses hand tools, power tools and testing instruments to repair and maintain machinery and equipment.
  4. Extracts data from sources such as blue prints, engineering orders, reports and specifications.
  5. Adjusts functional parts of mechanical devices as necessary.
  6. Repairs and overhauls pumps and heat exchangers; removes and replaces coils; replaces valves and associated equipment on steam systems or boilers up to 125 psi.
  7. Installs new equipment and systems and repairs and maintains current equipment and systems as needed.
  8. Dismantles, moves, installs or repairs various types of machinery and mechanical equipment.
  9. Inspects mechanical rooms of the hospital to ensure proper operation of heat, air conditioning, and ventilation fans and medical support equipment.
  10. Sets up and operates a variety of machines such as lathes, precision grinders, mills, etc., to perform machining operations.
  11. Cleans and lubricates parts.
 

Qualifications

  • Notes:
    • Other combinations of formal education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum Experience:
    • 3 - 5 years
    • HVAC experience, preferred
  • Minimum Education:
    • High School or G.E.D.
    • Vo-Tech/Trade School; preferred
  • Physical Demands:
    • Heavy physical effort (lift/carry 26 to 50 lbs)
    • Frequent prolonged standing/walking
    • Pushes/pulls or moves/lifts heavy equipment/supplies
    • Manual dexterity and mobility
    • Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching
