Position Summary:

General Summary:

Under general supervision, develops, implements and coordinates clinical exercise programs and administers diagnostic medical tests under a physician's supervision. Assists in the development and oversight of exercise programs in cardiac, pulmonary and metabolic patients. Performs testing and interpretation of non-invasive cardiac/pulmonary exercise tests, musculoskeletal endurance, strength and flexibility, body composition and analysis assessment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1 Possesses the knowledge and skills level to administer treadmill and pharmacological protocols for stress tests which includes, but is not limited to: monitor, record and interpret EKG tracings for diagnostic purposes; determine appropriate testing protocol; recognize presence of permanent pace maker; calculate and record diagnostic parameters; monitor and evaluate patient tolerance to test including chest pain; and submit test to physician.
2 Responsible for patient safety including recognizing cardiac arrhythmias and responding according to emergency protocols utilizing Basic Life Saving skills and obtaining emergency medical equipment.
3 Provides care to patient. Obtains history, assesses patient condition, collects and interprets clinical information for appropriateness for ordered test, explains procedure, obtains consent and provides personal care/hygiene.
4 Performs electrocardiograms. Possesses advanced knowledge of rhythm recognition.
5 Maintains operational knowledge of Noninvasive Cardiology/fitness equipment with ability to troubleshoot this equipment.
6 Possesses competency in the use of equipment for treatment and deriving exercise and lifestyle improvement strategies.
7 Demonstrates competency in exercise protocol selection and risk stratification classification in patient assessment and rehabilitation.
8 Possesses the ability to perform technical skills, which may include any of the following: venipuncture, blood pressure monitoring at rest and exercise, skinfold assessments, circumference measures, advanced EKG interpretation and monitoring, pulse oximetry and metabolic measures.
9 Demonstrates advanced knowledge of exercise prescription, exercise counseling and exercise education and setting of exercise goals that will best serve the needs of the patient.

Required Skills

Master’s Degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science or Kinesiology

Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist (RCEP) from ASCM obtained within 12 months of hire and/or Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) from ACSM obtained within 12 months of hire

BLS certification required


Required Experience

 1 - 2 years direct patient care experience in a clinical setting Required
