Will Consider Paramedics, Cardiovascular Tech, Radiologic Tech and License Practical Nurses

 

General Summary:

Under the general supervision, provides technical support and assistance to the physician during Electrophysiology procedures. Performs scrub, hemodynamic monitoring, stimming, and circulating with all Electrophysiology procedures using clinical knowledge, technical skills, and professional judgement in accordance with professional and departmental standards and protocols. Provides care, assessment prior, during and post-procedural instruction to patients. Prepares and maintains all pertinent information related to procedures.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Demonstrates proficiency in relevant radiation safety.

2. Monitors and assess clinical status of patient.

3. Monitors and manages cardiovascular hemodynamics.

4. Practices within the scope of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) protocols when administering emergency care.

5. Advises patient care team and cares for patients appropriately.

6. Demonstrates proficiency with the setup and operation of all equipment associated with cardiac electrophysiology procedures.

7. Demonstrates a thorough understanding and working knowledge of normal and abnormal anatomy, physiology, radiation safety, interventional supplies and equipment operation.

8. Recognizes and resolves equipment problems and discrepancies.

9. Anticipates patient needs and concerns and communicates the appropriate care needed.

10. Demonstrates professional judgement and critical thinking.

11. Scrubs in and assists physicians with procedures when necessary.

12. Circulates within procedure room and procures equipment required for any given procedure.

13. Operates the cardiac stimulator proficiently and independently for ablation procedures.

14. Assumes late call responsibilities as required.

15. Follows radiation safety policies as dictated by the NRC and York Hospital’s Radiation Safety Committee.

16. Properly handles and processes electronic record data and images in each respective system.

17. Performs tasks and duties in the prep and recovery areas of the department.

18. Attains Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) certification within 3 year of

hire date.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Education Graduate of a certificate or degree granting program or post-secondary educational program in a health science (includes, but not limited to, cardiovascular technology, radiologic technology, Licensed Practical Nurse,

Preferred Education: Degree from an accredited school of Cardiac Electrophysiology

Minimum Experience Up to 1 year preferred

Preferred Experience: 1 year of Electrophysiology and/or Cath Lab experience or graduate of an accredited school of Cardiovascular Technology.

Req Cert/Registration: Eligible for certification as a Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES); or Registered Radiologic Technologist (RT(R)); or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS); Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Obtain requisite certification within two (2) year of hire.

Skills: Other Ability to function as a team member; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to demonstrate the principles of surgical asepsis; understands cardiovascular pathophysiology; ability to read and interpret 12 lead EKG; ability to identify and manage lethal arrhythmias 100% of the time.
