General Summary:


Under general supervision of the Medical Director and the Operations Manager of Non-invasive Cardiology, performs a variety of diagnostic cardiac ultrasound procedures at an advanced specialist skill and knowledge level. Serves as Lead Echo Technologist for the Noninvasive Echocardiography Department. Performs adult, pediatric and NICU echocardiograms.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Demonstrates the knowledge and competency to perform all cardiac ultrasound techniques and examinations including, adult echos, stress echocardiograms, pediatric and NICU echo’s, TEE’s, pericardiocentesis, and any other future echo-related applications.
  • Oversees echo staff mentoring students in the clinical education setting.
  • Assists in selecting, training and evaluating echocardiography staff.
  • Verifies patency of IV and administers intravenous contrast agents (Definity).
  • Prepares preliminary echocardiogram reports and measurements for physicians.
  • Performs portable tests in patient rooms as appropriate.
  • Positions and transfers patients safely and comfortably.
  • Explains procedures to patients.
  • Responsible for coordination of the department Quality Improvement plan in compliance with current ICAEL/IAC Standards & maintaining ICAEL certification.
  • Use of inpatient scheduling tool in Epic.
  • Maintains equipment in efficient operating order; contacts Biomed Department as needed. Knowledgeable about protocol pre-sets for optimization of echo images.
  • Oversees inventory control and ordering supplies and equipment.
  • Responsible for documentation and reporting compliance of Critical Findings.
  • Able to navigate efficiently in Epic and Synapse for echo reporting and findings. Responsible for planning, implementation and coordination of training for Echo staff on procedural techniques & protocols, technology upgrades and advanced cardiac procedure applications in support of the Systems Heart & Vascular service line.
  • Shows leadership and sets the example for the echocardiography team for professionalism, customer excellence and knowledge in their field of expertise.
  • Works with manager for growth and optimization of echocardiogram services.
Required Skills
  • Associate's Degree (required)
  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
  • Completion of accredited program in Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (required)
  • Registered Pediatric Echocardiology Technologist (preferred)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills that reflect the ability to independently lead, prioritize work assignments and adapt new processes and/or techniques
  • Strong customer service skills focused on gaining a full understanding of needs, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Acts as role model by making positive first impressions, demonstrating respectful and welcoming behavior, maintaining composure when faced with difficult or demanding situations and/or personalities and shifts in priorities and/or tasks
Required Experience


  • Minimum of 5 years experience as an echocardiography technologist
  • Supervisory experience preferred
