Willing to allow applicant to work 50% in Chambersburg and 50% in York

General Summary

Performs a variety of duties at an advanced skills level in the areas of dosimetry, treatment, planning, protection and safety as they relate to radiation therapy

Essential Functions:

  • Consults with physician on patient treatment.
  • Assists and advises during the patient simulation process.
  • Assists and advises during the patient treatment.
  • Views different imaging modalities (CT, MRI, PET) for positions and size of lesions; inputs information into the computer to simulate patient's condition
  • Identifies position of critical organs surrounding lesion and determines areas and amount of radiation received by those areas through fields. Understands the concept of Dose Volume Histogram.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in 2D, 3D, IMRT and Dynamic Arc treatment planning.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Image Guided Radiation Therapy.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in working with Electronic Medical Record.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in image fusion and deformable registration.
  • Accounts for geometrical variations in the shape of the irradiated field; reports each shape of field, dosage necessary behind each shape, and distribution of dose for each setting.
  • Measures outputs of radiation through use of radiation detection instruments and calculation; determines the distribution of field of exposure and ranges of accuracy.
  • Calculates amount and activity of radioactive materials; receives, logs, registers, and assumes responsibility for radioactive materials from receipt through decay and disposal of material following established protocols.
  • Performs monthly and annual quality assurance for all treatment planning systems.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Associates Degree Required
  • Bachelors Degree Preferred

Work Experience:

  • 3 years Relevant experience. Required

Licenses:

  • Certified Medical Dosimetrist Upon Hire Required

Courses and Training:

  • Courses in radiation therapy. Upon Hire Required and
  • Training in computer dosimetry. Upon Hire Required
