General Summary:


Under the general supervision of the Senior. Director - Employee Health and Safety, provides occupational hygiene and safety evaluation services and assists in the design, direction, implementation, and sustainability of projects that improve employee safety using proven process and lean improvement methodologies.  Assists in the advancement of safety initiatives across the organization to ensure full compliance with the System’s policies and efforts for a Zero Harm safe work environment.  Directs employee participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce and enhance performance.  Facilitates the learning of those skills and functions essential for adaptation and productivity.


Duties and Responsibilities:


   1  Works with departments to design and implement performance (safety) indicators and monitoring systems.  Is familiar with lean and RTPS process improvement strategies.

   2  Applies analytical methods for safety improvement of standard operations.

   3  Effectively coaches others as they apply safety philosophies and behavioral based safety programming.

   4  Develops presentations on safety improvement projects.  Participates in presentations to leaders, administration, and nursing management.

   5  Facilitates effective meetings and workshops using group process and problem-solving tools and techniques.

   6  Manages project scope, schedule and budget using project management tools and techniques, such as, development of project plans, management of team process and appropriate use of performance improvement tools.

   7  Collaborates with leadership to identify and resolves conflicts and barriers to safety improvement.

   8  Develops annual objectives for system safety in concert with Sr. Director.

   9  Oversees prioritization of activities for Safety Specialist team including specific evaluations including: ergonomics, indoor air quality, performs exposure assessments for chemical, physical, and biological agents and conducts field sampling, consulting with management and staff on appropriate control measures.  Provides sampling analysis and consultation for ventilation, indoor air quality and HVAC type issues.  Writes up comprehensive reports for communication of departmental or system needs

  10  Working with Director, oversees system Employee Safety Committee efforts including creation and management of system goals, A3s and standard work for mitigation of incidents.

  11  Ensures that System workplace and labor practices are compliant with relevant OSHA regulations and provides consulting activities to ensure that worker health exposures are correctly identified, and solutions are delivered within management driven timeframes and budgets.  Oversees and responds to OSHA complaints and site visits.

  12  Carries out the fundamentals of occupational hygiene through the anticipation, recognition, evaluation and control of health and safety hazards in the System workplace.  Advocates for strict adherence of safety practices and policies such as lock-out, tag-out, confined space, personal protective equipment use and hazard communication standards.

  13  Performs exposure assessments for chemical, physical, and biological agents and conducts field sampling, consulting with management and staff on appropriate control measures.  Provides sampling analysis and consultation for ventilation, indoor air quality and HVAC type issues.  Writes up comprehensive reports for communication of departmental or system needs.





Bachelor's Degree

Master’s Degree in Business, Occupational Hygiene or Science. (Preferred)

5 Years of leadership experience 

Experience in health and safety compliance with 3 years’ experience addressing safety programs initiation and/or industrial safety. 

Lean Management and real time problem-solving experience.

Certification, or certification eligible, in Industrial Hygiene or Occupational Hygiene degree

Graduate of an accredited program in industrial/occupational hygiene or related field

Proficient in Microsoft Office suite;

Ability to listen and interact with employees on health and safety issues;

Demonstrate ability to prioritize objective s and clearly communicate priorities to others;

Highly goal and results oriented, with minimal need for supervision;

Effective writing and presentation skills.
