General Summary:

 

Under the general supervision of the Senior Director of Laboratory Services, plans, directs and supervises all administrative aspects of the  laboratory operations and its affiliated programs. Accountable for the quality and efficiency of the department’s operations.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

 

1 Maintains the departments in accordance with standards established by the regional Hospitals, accreditation agencies and with local, state and federal standards which may apply.

2 Recommends equipment modification, new equipment and essential construction within the region. Maintains existing equipment and contractual services as may be required.

3 Administers the regional performance improvement programs along with the department’s Medical Director and leadership staff. Ensures all patients are properly served by the department based on standard performance measures, processes and tools.

4 Administers preparation of regional reports, documents, payroll, statistical surveys and other data required. Responsible for acquiring, collecting, analyzing and managing statistical data related to the department’s services.

5 Maintains the regional customer relations program in accordance with regional philosophy. Initiates marketing and public relations actions as appropriate.

6 Monitors reimbursement and patient billing systems to ensure financial viability of regional laboratory services. Acts as a clinical resource by reviewing billing exceptions. Coordinates corrective action for medical necessity, reimbursement and documentation issues. Maintains knowledge of compliance regulations for federal, state and private payers.

7 Manages Laboratory information system database as well as related databases of Hospital and Financial systems. Manages data integration and interfaces, clinical processes and electronic health information development in cooperation with appropriate interdepartmental staff. Manages system testing and validation as needed for LIS and associated systems. Ensures proper staff training of information management systems and associated processes.

 

 

Qualifications

 

Bachelor's Degree

5 - 8 years of laboratory leadership experience  

Experienced certified generalist or specialist (e.g., MT(ASCP), CLS(NCA), SH(ASCP), SC(ASCP), SM(ASCP), SBB, etc.)

Excellent communication, interpersonal, managerial and computer skills;

Experience with Laboratory Information Systems management preferred

Experience and background with Lean Daily Management and Continuous Improvement practices
