WellSpan Health is seeking an experienced Director of Communications to join a growing organization and leads its public relations efforts, including media relations, stakeholder communications and corporate sponsorships.

 

Reporting to the Vice President-Communications and Chief Communications Officer, the Director develops reputation management strategies that strengthen and protect the WellSpan brand. This role serves as a key leader of the system’s communications function, working collaboratively with communications colleagues and interfacing with system executives and other leaders. The Director is accountable leading a team that drives best-in-class strategies in the areas of public relations, media relations (local, regional , national), stakeholder communications, corporate partnerships and more in order to measurably increase brand awareness, preference and loyalty. As a member of the communications leadership team, role models and fosters an integrated, collaborative, data-driven communications team culture that is known for high reliability and excellence in execution.

 

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

 

Continuously scans the internal and external environment and understands the organization’s major strategic and operating priorities

Leads all internal communication strategies, proactively identifying relevant opportunities to support organizational change and culture transformation, employee engagement, organization and executive thought leadership, technology deployment and related systemwide issues and initiatives

Engages with health system leaders and other members of the Public Relations and Marketing team to develop, manage and execute an integrated systemwide message platform, communication plan and cycle that includes live events and forums, employee meetings, video, podcasts and print and electronic newsletters and other communication channels.

Identifies best practices in communication for integrated health care delivery systems and continuously improves WellSpan’s internal communication structure, technology and processes.

Provides communication counsel and support to System leaders, physicians and teams regarding issues and initiatives.

Manages staff and resources of the internal communications team within the Public Relations and Marketing Department

Coordinates, writes and produces communication tools including e-newsletters, talking points, speeches, articles, publications, brochures, posters and other materials and campaigns. Manages content, design and functionality of internal websites.

 

 

Qualifications

 

Bachelor's Degree, Master’s Degree preferred

Minimum 7 years of communications, journalism or public relations experience in the

healthcare industry

Background in media relations from a large healthcare system

Experience in LEAN practices

Excellent written/oral communications, interpersonal and organizational skills

Proven journalistic writing and copyediting experience

Demonstrated Project management experience
