Job Description:

Under the general direction of the Senior Director-WSH Patient Access, leads, plans, organizes, and directs the Access functions of the System while providing support and oversight to the local Access operational management in an assigned region. Serves as a conduit though management coordination to the various Access teams, including: hospital registration, pre-hospital services, Centralized Services in conjunction with the WellSpan Medical Group, insurance verification and precertification, and call center functionality.


Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Accountabilities:

  1. Provides leadership, consultation, and support to local operational management in assigned region/division of Access.
  2. Directs a variety of operations which may include pre-registration, registration at various sites and/or entities, physician referral services, VNA call management, insurance verification, pre-certification, coordination with Care Management, as well as services provided centrally through collaboration with the WellSpan Medical Group including appointment scheduling, authorization and referral management, provider on-call services and nurse triage.
  3. Develops and implements a strategic plan for advancing above noted areas of responsibility.
  4. Consults with internal and external business partners and customers to align Access strategy and mission, vision and values.
  5. Emulates and builds on the core leadership expectations of the organization as well as the personal attributes necessary for success, including respect and integrity, continuous learning, compliance, working as one, focus on quality and safety, commitment to engagement and stewardship.
  6. Provides guidance and expertise to local operational management in resolving departmental and staff issues. Manages the Access services of the organization in an effective manner, enforcing and upholding positive HR procedures and policies.
  7. Implements appropriate controls and guidelines, to ensure that all services are performed in accordance with established customer service expectations, registration quality, and JACHO regulations. Responsible for maintaining Access quality and patient satisfaction within specific targets.
  8. Evaluates appropriate policies and procedures and makes recommendations for improvement, to include performance improvement projects, improved workflows, Access-involved initiatives, and patient satisfaction reviews of Access functions, in coordination with all WellSpan departments.
  9. Provides oversight and assists with supervision of departments within the scope of control, including meetings, communication, employee issues, policies and procedures.
  10. Collaborates with Physician and Nursing Leadership, Hospital and Medical Group Administrators, and Patient Administrative Services to provide quality Access services in support of the mission and goals of the System.
  11. Implements controls to ensure appropriate customer service and workforce management, as well as human, financial and material resources to ensure a high quality, cost effective and responsive health care service to all customers.
  12. Ensures compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements related to registration, insurance authorization and pre-certification, hospital-based and Medical Group scheduling activities.
  13. Prepares and approves all applicable cost centers’ budgets annually.
