Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Director -Food and Nutrition Services, supervises the overall operations of the cafeteria and Apple Cart, including food production, service, sanitation and special functions, to ensure optimum and quality service to patrons. Schedules and supervises the work activities of Food Services staff.


Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Accountabilities:

  1. Supervises cafeteria operations and Apple Cart to ensure that standards of quality, sanitation and efficiency are met.
  2. Supervises the production of food for cafeteria, Apple Cart and tray service with the Executive Chef.
  3. Supervises all catering and special functions including the planning, set-up, serving and clean up with the Director-Food and Nutrition Services and Executive Chef.
  4. Organizes, directs, supervises, and assigns staff workers in various areas of the cafeteria and Apple Cart. Orients, trains, guides, and instructs as necessary.
  5. Ensures that all policies and procedures are maintained including cash handling, operations and personnel.
  6. Ensures that required HACCP guidelines are maintained throughout the food preparation process.

NonEssential Accountabilities:

  1. Maintains departmental reports and records and collects statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes.
  2. Attends meetings as required, and participates on committees as requested.
  3. Performs other related duties as identified.

  1. Assists in selecting, training, orienting and evaluating staff. Prepares work schedules and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  2. Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  3. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops.
  4. Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.


  • Minimum Experience:
    • 2 - 3 years
  • Minimum Education:
    • Associate's Degree in Culinary Arts, Food Service or Business Management
  • Minimum Field Of Expertise:
    • Knowledge of food preparation, catering and food service management.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Frequent prolonged standing/walking
    • Lifts supplies/equipment
