Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Hospital Patient Access Manager, provides support to System departments, inpatient floors, Emergency Department, morgue staff, coroners, funeral directors, and family members of deceased patients through telephone and email contact, meetings, problem solving and follow-up and oversees bereavement services pertaining to all deaths

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Coordinates and performs all duties as outlined by established standard work.
  2. Develops, reviews, and maintains policies, procedures, and Standard Work on the Decedent Affairs SharePoint for expired patients
  3. Shares necessary information and updates from/with Security Department.
  4. With Manager, develops processes to reduce errors and streamline the death process .
  5. Functions as a liaison to funeral directors, County Coroner, nursing House Supervisor, morgue staff, Department of Health in person and/or via telephone; ensuring the length of stay in the morgue is minimal.
  6. Provides education/training to YH Registration team members on decedent affairs changes.
  7. Provides education/training to nursing, physicians, and other clinical and non-clinical staff on Expiration Navigator, Department of Health (DOH) Electronic Death Record System (EDRS), and Standard Work for the decedent process
  8. Resolves questions and discrepancies regarding expired patients using EPIC and various other tools.
  9. Maintains and develops tracking logs, reporting and decedent documentations
  10. Assists with implementing and supporting each WellSpan Health Hospital regarding the decedent process; included but not limited to EDRS and EPIC
  11. Maintains family grief packet with resources for the decent family members
  12. Fills in a backup roll to IT for enrolling and disenrolling clinical and non-clinical users in the EDRS system.
  13. Attends all applicable meetings related to the death process and EDRS
  14. Provides registration support, assisting the department with registration tasks as able.
  15. Functions in an on-call capacity.
 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications

  • Notes:
    • Other combinations of formal education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum Experience:
    • 1 - 2 years
  • Minimum Education:
    • High School or G.E.D.
  • Required Courses:
    • 6-8 week in-house registration procedures and medical terminology courses
  • Physical Demands:
    • Mostly sedentary work
    • Occasional prolonged standing/walking
  • Skills:
    • Excellent communication, written and verbal and interpersonal skills
