WellSpan has a director-level opening for its growing Communications team. Ideal candidates will have experience in large, integrated health systems, a relentless focus on achieving results, and a passion for continual improvement. Ideal candidates also should enjoy a fast-paced, collaborative, collegial work environment and find satisfaction in team success. We prefer directors to be located in South Central Pennsylvania but will consider remote options for exceptional candidates.

 

The Communications Director, Corporate Communications leads a team of four FTEs and partners with the VP of Communications to develop and execute the CEO communications platform; ensures organizational alignment around the WellSpan strategic plan via internal events and communications, and advances WellSpan’s thought leadership priorities externally. This is a great role for someone who is skilled at partnering with and coaching executives, enjoys a blend of internal and external communications, and is a superb speechwriter.

 

General Summary:

 

Under the general supervision of the Vice President-Communications and Chief Communications Officer, the Director plans, implements and evaluates internal and external communication strategies across systems of care and system-wide functions. Serves as a key leader of the system’s Communications function; interfaces with system executives and other leaders; drives best-in-class approaches and process in strategic communications, corporate communications, executive communications, media and community relations, content strategy and social media. The Director plays a key role in building positive reputation and relationships between the organization and its internal and external constituencies, shaping and advancing WellSpan’s message and brand strategy throughout the organization and across the service region to support consumer growth and loyalty. As a member of the Communications leadership team, role models and fosters an integrated, collaborative, data-driven Communications Team culture that is known for high reliability and excellence in execution.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Partners with system executives and key partners in marketing and other areas to understand business needs and develop proactive, integrated communication plan and strategies to advance strategic priorities.

Develops a system-wide strategic message platforms and communication plans and schedules that aligns with the WellSpan brand personality and position and supports the health system’s strategic goals and priorities; ensures consistency of message across all internal and external communication channels.

Regularly scans internal and external environment for best practices and opportunities; proactively identifies issues and opportunities that would impact the system’s reputation and brand; executes communication strategies to develop an engaged workforce, build the WellSpan brand and advance the system’s local, regional and system-wide priorities.

Develops strategies and contacts which build positive relationships between WellSpan Health and local stakeholders, including elected officials, health and human service executives and other community leaders.

Drives media relations strategies and activities including the development of news releases, op-eds, story placement strategies and crisis communications/issues management activities. Serves as one the system’s public information officers and participates in disaster planning activities. 

 

Drives internal communication strategies to enhance employee engagement; develops communication plans, elevator speeches, newsletters, articles, blog posts and presentations, and actively participates in the planning and execution of various leadership and employee meetings.

Tracks and analyzes the performance of all communication plans and strategies on an ongoing basis and develops effectiveness reports, scorecards and dashboards on a micro and macro basis.

Excels as thinker, collaborator, writer, speaker, listener and team leader. Directs communications staff.

Ensures compliance with WellSpan brand identity and nomenclature standards across all services, physician practices and facilities within local system of care.

Plans, organizes and promotes special events, open houses and other related activities, in coordination with other members of the system’s public relations and marketing team.

Plans, manages, and coordinates the production of communication projects for internal and external audiences.  Includes newsletters, publications, brochures, flyers, and related collateral materials.

 

Qualifications 

 

Bachelor's Degree, Master’s Degree preferred       

7-10 years of Communications experience work directly with executive leadership

Excellent written/oral communications, interpersonal and organizational skills; computer skills (word processing);

strong journalistic writing, copy editing and project management skills
