Coding Quality Specialist - Heart & Vascular Administration - Full-time (Day)

General Summary:
Under general supervision, coordinates coding quality reviews, training and ongoing coder education. Reviews reports to monitor timely completion of charts and accuracy and compliance of data for the purposes of compliance with regulations, statistical compilation, clinical research, clinical care analysis, provider profiling and optimal reimbursement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1 Conducts coding and abstracting quality reviews and provides feedback and education based on results.
2 Acts as coding expert, fielding all questions on ICD-9-CM, ICD-10 and CPT codes to coders, other Hospital departments and physician offices as needed.
3 Develops educational programs for coding staff based off of reports from compliance software system, training updates and continuing education. Develops education programs for clinical documentation nurses.
4 Develops and maintains tools for new coder training.
5 Assists the clinical coding leadership team in monitoring and preparing data for coding compliance, case mix index analysis, quality reporting and appropriate clinical documentation.
6 Makes all data quality corrections including quarterly PHC4 corrections, abstracting errors, etc..
7 Reviews bill edit and account issues reports on a regular basis to identify coding and abstracting issues affecting reimbursement.
8 Researches edits for billing by reviewing the chart for additional, appropriate codes.
9 Participates in computer program testing, Task Force meetings and Coding Roundtable.
10 Assists in the review of medical records for denials and audits and provides summary and feedback.

Department Description:
CVS Research is a very active dept and ever changing.  Our trials are in all aspects of cardiovascular including electrophysiology, invasive cardiology, noninvasive cardiology, cardiac surgery, and peripheral vascular.  We follow between 250 to 300 pts in 25 to 35 clinical trials.  We enroll and complete follow up visits with patients on a daily basis.  We work closely with our cardiologists and many other depts within Wellspan. 

Required Experience

Minimum Education: Associate's Degree

Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree

 

Ideal candidate will have a coding background. Experience with cath labs, ep labs, and vascular labs a definite plus!

Inpatient/Outpatient hospital coding and ICD-10 certification preferred.
