Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Practice Manager, Service Line Clinical Manager and Medical Director, functions as part of the management team, performing a variety of clinical and administrative duties related to clinical staff management and patient care.  Duties may include quality monitoring, patient assessments, direct patient care, triage, administration of IVs, and patient/caregiver/staff education.  Provides safe, therapeutic, efficient quality care and services to all patients served.  Functions as a member of the health care team at registered nurse level to assist in the planning and implementation of patient care based upon sound nursing judgment, clinical preparation, knowledge, skills and experience. Nursing care is provided in accordance with the provisions of the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.  May be responsible for the clinical functions of more than one practice.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Works with the Practice Manager and Service Line Clinical Manager to ensure adequate staffing levels and skill mix are maintained for all shifts through the development, preparation and maintenance of staffing schedules that meet department/unit needs and apply to variable census conditions. Makes appropriate adjustments/assignments to maximize timely patient care. Looks to staffing needs into the next matrix.
  2. Oversees the delivery of patient care. Supervises, directs, and delegates patient care assignments to staff based on acuteness of staff availability, patient care needs and safety.
  3. Prioritizes and organizes work. Actively takes part in the performance appraisal process by providing input for staff evaluations. Holds staff accountable for performance standards. Assists with interviewing. Mediates staff conflicts and provides feedback concerning performance, behavior, etc.
  4. Collaborates with the Practice Manager on areas of need in the department (e.g., problematic flow issues, equipment and supplies issues, documentation issues, patient satisfaction issues and performance issues).
  5. Anticipates and resolves patient/family concerns in a timely manner. Keeps patients and families informed.
  6. Protects patient confidentiality by promoting professional staff communications.
  7. Serves as a resource and role model/mentor to staff.
  8. Assists with ordering or delegating the ordering of medications, supplies, and equipment. Submits maintenance and repair services and prepares related forms. Keeps stock and equipment inventories.
  9. Monitors Risk and Safety Management Alert System (RASMAS) notices and completes necessary follow-up.
  10. Supervision of clinical staff team members – includes recruitment, orientation, ongoing performance evaluations, retention, and corrective action in collaboration with Practice Manager and Service Line Clinical Manager.
  11. Coordinates and ensures implementation of onboarding/orientation of new clinical employees.
  12. Coordinates continuing education of clinical staff and assures clinical competencies are met, documented, and maintained.
  13. Educates nursing and medical assistant team on new clinical policies and procedures. Ensures high level of clinical excellence of new policies and procedures are maintained.
  14. Ensures an efficient day-to-day clinical workflow within the practices. Including timely rooming of all patients, ensure appropriate triage of patients, and managing number of rooms utilized.
  15. Oversight of advanced clinical programs specific to the department. Maintain appropriate certifications required.
  16. Follows recommended processes to appropriately manage and document patient concerns and quality of care issues including use of Just Culture.
  17. Applies lean principles and identifies opportunities for improvement.
  18. Monitors and audits staff completion of clinical tasks within the patient electronic record. Ensures timely completion of all tasks.
  19. Assumes practice manager role when practice manager is not present.
  20. Prepares and holds regular clinical staff meetings or huddles.
  21. Assists in investigation and follows up on SRS events.
  22. Participates in daily Huddles.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Experience:
    • 3 - 5 years
  • Minimum Education:
    • Associate Degree
  • Required Certification:
    • Registration and current RN license in PA
    • BLS certification
