Position Summary:

General Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Director-Clinical Operations, in collaboration with the WellSpan Medical Group senior leadership team, functions as part of the WellSpan Medical Group management team, assumes responsibility for coordinating all aspects of quality clinical care, standardization of clinical practice, compliance with all State and regulatory standards and laws, and recognition of required programs and services.


Duties and Responsibilities:
1 Acts as a change agent in the identification, development, planning, implementation, and value measurement of clinical care strategies to support and integrate quality patient care and professional practice. Provides clinical analysis and evaluation of clinical care and recommends revision of clinical systems, processes, and workflow to ensure achievement of positive patient outcomes for the WellSpan Medical Group (WMG).
2 Interacts with all levels of the organization, from front-line staff to senior management. Provides planning and coordination of clinical quality initiatives to improve outcomes and achieve business objectives.
3 Oversees the development, and implementation of clinical quality programs, including the introduction of new clinical initiatives, programs, registries, procedures and external reporting requirements. Provides education and assists leadership in developing strategies to respond to new clinical and quality program requirements and opportunities for improvement supported by external benchmarking.
4 Provides clinical work direction for Clinical Nurse Coordinators (CNC) and Practice Managers to ensure safe and efficient care, employee job satisfaction and service excellence for patients, family, and our community.
5 Serves as the clinical leadership resource, mentor, and coach for WMG CNCs, whom represent clinical management for primary and specialty care practices.
6 Collaborates with the practice manager, operations administrator, and human resources to review, interview, and select qualified CNC applicants.
7 Develops and implements orientation and onboarding schedules for all newly hired CNCs, which includes the pairing of mentors.
8 Serves as a primary advisor to the CNC for purposes of retention, observing, polishing, and signing off skills on an as needed basis while providing leadership coaching.
9 Assesses the CNC throughout the 90-day probationary period to close gaps in learning. Collaborates with practice manager to develop changes in performance goals or develop performance improvement plans as necessary.
10 Collaborates with practice managers and operations administrators to develop annual clinical performance goals and provide invaluable input for CNC annual performance evaluations.
11 Conducts site visits at clinical sites/facilities across the WMG to observe the environment of care and clinical staff. At the request of the Practice manager assists in the evaluation of clinical staff performance by shadowing patient care and evaluating skills/competencies/workflows (as applicable). Aids with staff counseling and establishment of staff performance action plans.
12 Collaborates with WMG administration and leadership to address clinical and operational issues consistently across WMG practices and the continuum.
13 Chairs or participates in multiple WMG and WSH committees, councils, subgroups, workgroups, and integration groups as the clinical expert. Coordinates and facilitates monthly CNC meetings to ensure continuity of care down to front line staffs.
14 Functions as a liaison with administration/management to ensure that appropriate nursing standards of care and practices are followed, and as needed are designed/developed, communicated, and implemented across WMG practices.
15 Develops, maintains and revises established clinical WMG policies, procedures, patient safety, environmental, and infection control standards as per CDC, OSHA, department of health-state regulations, and other health insurance and/or regulatory bodies.
16 Works with CNC and practice manager to ensure staff understanding and compliance with WSH administrative and clinical policies, procedures, best practice standards, clinical workflows, and regulatory requirements. Works to support the practices with PCMH, PCSP, MIPs, OSHA, CLIA, and the Department of Health Vaccine for Children Program (VFC).
17 Works with the management team and the Clinical Nursing Coordinators to identify and implement waste reduction initiatives, and to design processes that maintain a safe environment for patients and employees using accepted process improvement techniques (e.g., Lean, PDSA, RCA, etc.). Resource for CNC with Lean Daily Management. Works with the Value Analysis Team (VAT) and management teams to evaluate and standardize equipment, supplies and medications/immunizations across WMG practices.
18 Evaluates clinical staffing roles, ensures staff are performing to their highest level of competence and within their scope of practice, works with WMG Professional Development Specialists (WMG Clinical Educators) to develop clinical education and clinical competencies. Works to standardizes roles, ensures adequate cross-training, measures performance against competencies, develops plans for closing staff knowledge and performance gaps, and recommends continuing education when appropriate.
19 Participates fully in efforts to optimize Electronic Medical Record (EMR) technology, with the goal to integrate standard workflows for clinical staff to follow across WMG practices.
20 Actively participates in the development and coordination of long-range strategic plans for the clinical operations of WMG practices. Takes an active role in improving patient satisfaction metrics and other patient health outcomes. Takes an active role in planning and development of clinical quality blue book/WIG objectives.

Required Skills

  • 5-7 years of recent clinical nursing experience
