Job Description:

Under the general direction of the Director-Imaging Services, manages and directs the evaluation and assessment of diagnostic imaging equipment in Imaging and other WellSpan departments. Provides oversight of the York Hospital Radiation Safety Program and advises the Radiation Safety Committee.


Duties and Responsibilities


  1. Establishes, implements and reviews the Radiation Safety Program, including policies, procedures, audits, exposure reviews, etc.
  2. Supervises the work of staff physicists, assistants, and administrative support to ensure that work is performed appropriately and in a timely manner.
  3. Assesses new technology and assists the Director of Imaging in the planning and selection of diagnostic imaging equipment throughout the System.
  4. Supervises and provides radiation safety and diagnostic imaging physics education to employees, physicians, and WellSpan Health Radiography Program in accordance with regulatory agencies.
  5. Participates as a didactic instructor in the WellSpan Radiography Program. Prepares and maintains course outlines and
  6. objectives, instructs and evaluates students, and reports progress. Cooperates with the program director in periodic
  7. reviews and revisions of course materials.
  8. Advises patients, physicians and employees of their radiation exposures/doses as required.
  9. Evaluates accidents/incidents involving radiation/radioactive materials.

  • Minimum Experience:
    • 5 - 8 years


  • Minimum Education:
    • Master's Degree in Radiation or Medical Physics


  • Minimum Field Of Expertise:
    • Physics, Medical Physics, Engineering, Applied Health Physics or other related physical science


  • Required Certification:
    • Registration: Board certification by American Board of Health Physics in Comprehensive Health Physics or
    • American Board of Medical Physics in Medical Health Physics is recommended
