WellSpan Health, a sophisticated medical community and tertiary care center in south central Pennsylvania is seeking a Chair of Anesthesiology for York Hospital. Qualified candidate will hold a dual role as Chair of York Hospital Department of Anesthesiology and Medical Director of Perioperative Services for York Hospital. We are seeking an inspiring and seasoned physician leader with a demonstrated record of progressive clinical and administrative achievement and a commitment to patient satisfaction and clinical excellence. York Hospital is a 579-bed hospital with a level 1-trauma center and a highly regarded cardiac surgery program.  


About the Opportunity

  • Successful candidate will be a Board Certified Anesthesiologist. Fellowship training is highly desirable. In addition to the administrative responsibilities, it is anticipated that candidates for this position will provide up to 20 hours of clinical activity in order to maintain competency and credibility.
  • Department Chair reports directly to the VPMA.  Responsibilities include oversight for all patient care, administrative and educational activities of the Department including review of patient quality, staff credentialing and privilege delineation, peer review, and medical education.
  • Perioperative Medical Director responsibilities includes working collaboratively with OR Nursing Leadership and the Chair of Surgery to develop services to optimize patient care.
  • Additional responsibilities include broad overall medical direction of perioperative services within York Hospital, providing strong medical leadership to help optimize OR efficiency and access, patient and surgeon satisfaction, ensuring that the acute pain and moderate sedation activities offered are of the highest quality, and providing supervision of the Anesthesia Technicians.
  • Successful candidate will also serve as Medical Director of the York College/WellSpan Health school of Nurse Anesthesia.
